Hello,

could someone help me??
I seem to have forgotten the key to access the BIOS of my COMPAQ Armada (I thought it was F10) but nothing works on startup (I’ve tried all the function keys + Delete + Ctrl-Esc).
If someone could confirm the access key, that would be really nice... because it’s really starting to get on my nerves!

No, none of the keys are working.

Personally, I acted differently.

I started by taking the hard drive out of the laptop.
I removed it from the bracket it was held in (a specific bracket to adapt the connection to the laptop).

Once the hard drive was out, I connected it to my own PC, then I launched Disk Management and formatted it completely.

Once finished, I reattached it to the bracket and then reinserted it into the laptop.

Upon startup, I inserted the OS CD I wanted to install into the CD drive.

Right after it attempted to boot from the hard drive, and since it couldn't find a bootable OS, it automatically asked me to boot from the CD-ROM.

And that's how I was able to reinstall an OS on a Compaq Armada E500.

Compaq Armada 1700 or 1750 Power-On password removal, mine is a 1710, but it's practically the same operation for most laptops!
This guide explains how to clear the Power-On password on a Compaq Armada 1700/1750.
Many people are asking for advice on how to clear the annoying startup password on an Armada 1700 or 1750. This guide will help you.
Step 1:
Turn on the computer and wait for the password entry screen to appear, Power on Password,,,,

Step 2:
Turn off the computer, press the keyboard clips with a pen, and carefully lift the keyboard,

You will need to disconnect the RTC \ CMOS battery found near the front on the right side.

Step 3:
Remove the main battery and the power cable.

Step 4:
Wait 20/30 minutes for all power to drain.
Step 5:
Only plug in the power cable. Do not connect the main battery or the CMOS battery, otherwise you will have to start over...
Step 6:
Turn on the laptop and you will hear several beeps and errors will appear. You should see:
162-System options not set
and
163-Time and date not set
You should see other errors such as:
CMOS Checksum Invalid, etc.

Two boxes will then appear asking you to save or ignore the default settings. Press F1 to save and the system restarts PASSWORD FREE!
If you only get the error if you haven't left the laptop long enough without power (step 4) or if you inserted a battery while the power cable is connected.
Step 7:
Lift the keyboard again and plug the RTC \ CMOS battery back into the motherboard. Insert the main battery.
Notes:
Some passwords on 1700's \ 1750 can be cleared simply by removing the RTC \ CMOS battery for 30 seconds, but others must be helped by a good Compaq technician to clear the password (using the steps I have shown). This method also works on many other Compaq laptops. This method clears ALL passwords, including the configuration password.

At startup, you press and hold the "Delete" key, that's it!
