Hello,

I'm looking to disable a key on my keyboard (the one that shortcuts to the Start Menu), as I sometimes press it accidentally and hit another key afterward, which launches one of the applications from the start menu (for example, shut down or restart... which is not very fun!!)...

Thanks for your help :-)

Otherwise, in general, beyond the Windows key (which can also be disabled using this technique that I'm going to explain), it is possible to disable all the keys on the keyboard.

I was despairing of finding a solution to my problem, which was that one key on my laptop keyboard (the "Down Arrow" key) was activating by itself. This is an internal keyboard issue (a faulty contact somewhere) since even removing the key physically with a screwdriver did not solve the problem. It was impossible to write, browse the Internet, or basically use my computer.

And it wasn't easy to find a solution in the discussion forums!

There is, however, a maneuver that involves editing the registry and assigning a different function to a key on the keyboard, or even disabling it. However, you need to have the corresponding code for the keyboard key to do this. And I couldn't find it (the binary code is not the one).

And finally, through my research, the solution became clear:

The small software SharpKeys ( http://www.randyrants.com/sharpkeys/ ) allows you to easily make the registry modification in three and a half clicks. I was finally able to disable the key that was bothering me so much!

So, I'm sharing this information here because it was really hidden deep in the web.

However, I just tried them again and they work for me?

On the first link, scroll down a bit with your web browser's scrollbar until you reach "Sharpkeys": there's a tutorial for explanations.

The second link, on the other hand, is a list of available versions of the Sharpkeys software. Even though I don't like direct links, the latest version can therefore be downloaded here: Sharpkeys

Hoping this can help you as it helped me.
