Unable to uninstall acrobat reader 8.1

Hello,
I tried to uninstall Acrobat Reader via Add/Remove Programs but it was impossible because a .dll was missing, so I deleted the Adobe folder in Program Files and did a registry cleanup.
The problem is that I still see Adobe Reader in Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and I cannot remove it; it says: Unable to open this patch package. Verify that the patch package exists...
And when I try to install Adobe Reader 7, it tells me there is a newer version on my computer, and it stops the installation.
How can I get rid of the Adobe folder in the Control Panel?
I'm struggling, I'm struggling...

I have the solution!

Found on another forum. I tested it and it works: I was able to remove that damn Reader 7 (which didn’t appear anywhere, not even in the Registry) and installed version 8. Thanks to Totof from the 01.net forum!!
I quote him:

download the Microsoft Clean Up Utility:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us

install it, click on the Start menu, All Programs, Windows Install Clean Up

in the list that appears in the utility, click on Adobe Reader that is causing you problems and click on Remove then on Exit

Restart and install the one you want

Hello,
it's the same for me, I had version 7 and after trying to download version 8.1.1, I can't remove it anymore; I get the message "unable to open the patch package."
How can I get out of this?

Well, I uninstalled with Suppress Plus, the folder is no longer in Suppress Plus but it remains in Add/Remove. It is still marked as 180MB even though the folder no longer exists on C. The new installation detects it in Add/Remove and the installation stops because it detects a newer version. It's really a headache.

Well, you uninstalled it, OK.

Now still under remove, you will select the "Acrobat Reader" icon and you will click on the "delete" icon in the menu bar (red cross).

To uninstall Acrobat Reader: download Windows Install Clean Up, success guaranteed.

Then: download Foxit: http://www.cubic.com/Telecharer-fiche13808-foxit-pdf-reader.HTML

I still have the software name in the Control Panel (add/remove programs), but when I try to reinstall the software, a window opens and tells me: "unable to open the patch package, contact the vendor and verify that it is a valid Windows Installer patch package."
What to do???????????????????????????????

The solution from crest: <bold>https://support.microsoft.com/en-us worked very well for me, I reloaded version 7 and I'm hesitant to switch to 8 again... yet it seems to me that it's Photoshop Discovery that causes the issue with Adobe Reader 8.1.1

PROBLEMS remain THE SAME: MESSAGE: unable to remove the previous version of Adobe Reader 8.1.2 - French. Contact your technical support group.

The solution provided in the previous post works correctly to remove the blocked Adobe Reader, to uninstall it.

I am a "newbie" in computing. This is the first time I am writing on a forum. I thought it was important to send a message to warmly thank him, as I took a chance with his method and, I'm pleased to report: IT WORKS!
Result: I successfully removed my pesky ADOBE READER 8.1.1 on the first try and immediately installed ACROBAT READER 8.1.2
I could no longer open PDF documents. I just checked by doing a test with the first one that came up: no more problem. It opened like magic!
The issue I initially encountered with ACROBAT READER 8.1.1 seems to have stemmed from a messed-up installation of PHOTOSHOP CS2...

I also had a problem uninstalling Acrobat Reader 8.1.1. Same message of impossibility as for all of you. I followed Crest's advice and installed the cleanup utility, then followed the procedure. It worked like a charm. Everything disappeared. Then I downloaded Foxit Reader as a replacement for Acrobat Reader and I have had no issues with opening or printing PDF documents. The only downside is that it displays in English, but for what we need to understand, we manage just fine. I'm hesitant to reinstall Acrobat Reader for fear of having problems again.
Previously, I had managed to open PDF documents by tinkering a lot, but I could no longer print; when I clicked on Print it displayed in English even though my version of Acrobat was indeed in French, and Acrobat did not recognize my printer. So I was unable to proceed further. Could someone explain to me why? I would like to know the underlying reasons for this problem that I solved with Foxit Reader.

So good!!! It works!!! Honestly, a big thanks to Crest for their solution... I've been struggling with my PC for a month with other issues (spyware secure and all...) : when I encountered this new problem with Acrobat Reader, I thought, it's him or me (referring to my PC). For the past few weeks, I have been unable to open all the files I receive; could this be due to my antivirus, which was recently renewed?
