Wi-Fi and my iPod Touch Solved/Closed

Question

Hello,
I bought myself an iPod touch and I am unable to connect to the Wi-Fi network at home (I’m with Télé2). When my iPod searches for a network, it finds it but I can’t connect to it. And when I try to configure it (IP, DNS, Router, Subnet, Client ID) I can’t fill everything in.
For your information, there is a lock icon next to the name of the found network and even if I enter my password, I cannot connect.
What should I do?

I encountered the same problem as you when I tried to connect the iPod touch to my Wifi router (NETGEAR WGT624) for the first time. My router uses MAC address filtering, so I made sure to retrieve the MAC address of the iPod touch before attempting a first Wifi connection.
The MAC address of the iPod touch can be found under: Settings-General-About-Wi-Fi Address
Then, after adding the MAC address of the iPod Touch to the router, I tried to connect by simply entering the requested password (for me, the WPA2 key -> a string of characters), but that didn’t work. Probably a typing error during my first use of the iPod Touch keyboard. It’s true that the fact that the characters of the password entered don’t appear on the screen doesn’t make things easier. After trying different combinations: Changing the encryption mode of the wifi router (switching from a WPA2 key to a WEP key), then changing the router password, nothing worked,
but I eventually found the solution to connect my iPod touch to Wifi and wanted to share this method with you, hoping it can help many iPod touch owners who, like me, struggled to connect their iPod touch to Wifi:

Step 1: Start from a clean slate by deleting the previous network settings of the iPod Touch.
To do this, go to: Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings

Step 2: Establish the connection between the iPod touch and the Wifi router
Note 1: Be careful, at this stage, some routers like Livebox require prior activation of a button to accept the iPod into their list of authorized devices (in my case -> NETGEAR WGT624 router, the router needs to be configured to manually add the MAC address of the iPod touch) unless you are not using MAC address filtering on your Wifi router, this step is necessary

After completing step 1. To now establish the connection with the iPod touch, go to: Settings -Wi-Fi - Choose a network …

Note 2: At this stage, the name of your Wifi router should appear -> However, do not click on it and choose the option: Other… (to manually configure the Wifi access for the iPod touch)
Then enter the exact name (SSID) of your Wifi network in the Name field, then, from the Security field, select the type of encryption that your router uses (WEP, WPA, or WPA2), you just need to enter the network password (being very careful with each character typed and making sure to respect uppercase letters if your password contains them).

From there, just click on Join, and after a few seconds, the Wifi connection should be established with the iPod. If that’s the case, no failure message should appear on the screen. Open Safari or YouTube which should then load information via Wifi.

Hi everyone,

I really struggled for 3 days, and finally, it’s super easy to connect your IPOD Touch to your Livebox.

If, like me, you entered the password for your system administrator page of the LB, which is "admin", and you keep trying to connect after that, stop everything!!! and start over.

To do this, select "forget this network" and confirm (red).

Then, re-select your Livebox, and for the Password, enter the "Wifi security key" which should be on the label that also has the name of your Livebox, which is located on the orange envelope "INSTALLING The Livebox". Personally, I stuck it on the inside page of the Guide.

Everyone talks about the "WEP" key: it’s the wifi security key, which acts as the password.

WARNING: be careful with the capitals by making sure to reactivate the "shift" key each time, because once you have typed the letter, it unlocks.

By the way: NEVER USE SPACES OTHERWISE IT WON'T WORK!!!

After a bit of concentration to avoid mistakes, it should be all good!!!

If someone has the solution to be able to connect automatically to hotspots when leaving home, please share the tip because I haven't done that yet.

Hi,
I just struggled like some people to access the web via the iPod touch, connection established but unable to browse on Safari or YouTube, always an error. I changed the position of my WEP key in the administration of my router to set it to one, then I switched to WEP auto mode, and after validating the changes, everything was fine.
Always try first without a WEP key to see; disable it in your router settings at either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 depending on your router, use admin as the username and admin as the password if it's required, assuming you are still on default settings, of course.

Hello everyone, it turns out that I had the same problem with the server being unreachable.
However, you just need to fill everything in correctly with the DHCP in your IP address.
If the Livebox works like my Netgear, you need to assign a name to your added MAC address. You must not make a mistake on either of the two, then copy it into your IP address on the iPod touch.

After the messages above, I eventually managed to connect my IPOD TOUCH to my LIVEBOX.
I confirm that the password corresponds to the WEP key on the label under the LIVEBOX.
TWO TIPS:
1- Do not include spaces
2- The difficulty mainly comes from the need to respect uppercase and lowercase letters.
You can't see what you type, and the IPOD automatically switches to lowercase for each letter. So, you need to press the vertical arrow before each uppercase letter.

To get back on topic:  I did everything you said and it's still not working. Here I have a Livebox and it's very simple to connect the iPod to the Livebox.  Go to the router (click on Wireless Network) and disable the MAC filter list. It's not very useful and since I own a Mac, it does nothing for me. Return to the wireless network, click on "configure WEP" (I use this system) and you will see your WEP key. So here’s a tip: instead of mindlessly copying "04:d1:2g:" etc., remove the ":" and simply copy your WEP key, so in my example write "04d12g" without spaces, without capitalization, nothing.  And there, the magic of Apple works. Thank you, Steve Jobs, for making such an easy-to-use iPod. Not thanks to Orange for making a complicated Livebox. (Yes, because I've experienced more than just this kind of issue with my Livebox.)

Hello everyone, I've been struggling since yesterday to connect my iPod Touch!! Finally, I did it, and as always, it's a silly mistake that was preventing me from doing so... when you enter your WEP key, most of the time the characters need to be entered in uppercase... and that's where the joke of the iPod lies!  Let me explain, when I was entering my code, I pressed the shift key once to type RAS123 for example! The thing is that the code is in stars and you can't see what you're typing! Your iPod shows a keyboard in uppercase by default but it writes in lowercase!  What I was typing was Ras123 because after each letter typed, your iPod automatically switches back to lowercase...!  You need to press the shift key again between each letter!! So for the example sequence type:  "shift" R "shift" A "shift" S 123...  And suddenly your code is correct and just like magic, you exit the menu and Safari and the whole bunch are accessible!  What a mess! Hello everyone! I believe I can answer many of your questions. First of all, it is IMPOSSIBLE to connect to MSN with the iPod touch and you can't put games on it. BUT I found a forum about the iPod touch and there are lots of people saying that we can "jailbreak" our iPod, which is a rather complicated process, but then we can access MSN, install games, and watch videos from a website (if we don't jailbreak the iPod, it won't be possible to watch videos from Skyblog!!!) In fact, as soon as we jailbreak the iPod touch, we can download EVERYTHING and of course, download directly on our iPod. BUT BE CAREFUL, the iPod might get damaged after being jailbroken!!! First, you need to set up the first computer (as explained in the DartyBox guide) using ethernet, then only install the Wifi kit by plugging in the USB key provided in the DartyBox WIFI pack  After that, your first computer will be connected to the Internet through your DartyBox wifi  For the Ipod, you need to:  - Press the small ERG button on your DartyBox and go to the Settings of your Ipod, then WI FI. Once your network is found (e.g., DartyBox_.....), click on it. The ipod will ask you for a password, which is your WEP key that must be entered on your ipod without worrying about capitalization and spaces (just like it is entered on your computer)  By doing this, you are telling your Dartybox: “the next device that connects within 30 seconds is authorized, as long as it gives you the correct password to connect permanently.”  - For your second computer, you need to do the same thing; it is not necessary to buy another Wifi key from Darty if your computer can already do Wifi on its own (otherwise, you must indeed go buy a new Wifi key). You proceed in the same way by pressing the REG button on your Dartybox again and entering your WEP key on your computer  --> Start --> Connections --> Show all connections--> Double-click on Wireless Network Connection--> Show available wireless networks.  You should find all your neighbors and your connection, click on your connection and enter your WEP key (twice if prompted) - You are finally connected.  In any case, your DartyBox now knows your devices, so they will connect automatically the next time they are turned on.  Additional info:    - Be careful, you have a limited time to do all this (between the moment you press REG and the end of entering your WEP key)  - I recommend that once this is done, you unplug your DartyBox by removing the power to make sure it reconnects permanently  - Don’t go too fast, let your DartyBox initialize quietly  - These tips are also valid for other providers like Livebox for example  A+  And good luck !!!!!!

For all Livebox users, there are two settings to make in order to get the Wi-Fi connection working.    The first: configure your wireless connection  1 - start a new Internet Explorer page  2 - enter your Livebox's address in the address bar (e.g.: http://192.000.0.0)  3 - once on the page, click on "access the configuration pages (access reserved, protected by...)"  4 - a box appears which is named for example "connected to 192.000.0.0", fill in the username and password (note: Orange sets "admin" by default for both pieces of information)  5 - once on the page, click on "configuration", then on "advanced", then on "wireless".  6 - a list appears, check "WEP Security only"  7 - Finally click on "submit", your Livebox will disconnect and reconnect automatically to take the new settings into account.   The second: connect iPod touch to your Wi-Fi connection  1 - on the iPod touch go to "settings"  2 - then go to "Wi-Fi", the list of available Wi-Fi networks will appear.  3 - behind the Livebox, there are 2 buttons named 1 and 2, press button 1  4 - finally on your iPod touch select your Wi-Fi, it will ask you for the password, this password corresponds to the WEP Key which you can find on the label stuck underneath your Livebox.  5 - finally click on join and that's it.

I finally managed to connect via my Livebox !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After following all the advice given here and there, I found a solution that might be effective for you. First of all, go to: Settings, General, Reset, and then reset network settings. Then click on "Reset".  Wait a few seconds... Then try to go back to Safari. You will be asked to select a network; for me, it's my Livebox. You will be prompted to enter your password, which, as everyone says, is the WEP key (to be typed without spaces and making sure to respect the uppercase letters by pressing the shift key each time you type a new letter. Before pressing enter, don't forget to synchronize your Livebox by pressing button 1 (the small antenna's LED should flash). Press enter and normally, you're good to go!  If your iPod is correctly connected, a small symbol (three little lines) should appear next to the word iPod written at the top left of your screen.  I hope I could help you.

Hello everyone! Following the acquisition of my iPod touch, I was unable to connect it to my Livebox. However, after following word for word what grmblack advised on pages 5-6, everything went smoothly and now I can read my messages and watch videos on YouTube with my iTouch. When you enter your WEP key (WiFi security key) DO NOT ENTER SPACES otherwise the connection will be impossible!  I used to put spaces and that's why I couldn't connect.  Good luck to everyone!
