I want to download a free PDF app but every time they ask me to pay

    Hello,

    Your request is imprecise because there are at least two types of PDF applications: PDF readers, which are all free, and PDF editors, commercial versions that include creation and correction features.

    Editors urge you to switch to the latter, but nothing obliges you if all you need is to read PDFs—documents distributed so they cannot be edited by recipients. Just avoid clicking on paid version links often offered as a one-month trial.

      Hello,

      And nothing in that tells us that the request might not concern a smartphone either.

      Some, though few, include a PDF viewer (for example on my Xiaomi Mi PDF Viewer) otherwise it’s hell, all apps are paid or stuffed with advertisements at an intolerable level.

      A good compromise is Collabora Office, which is neither one nor the other, not its vocation, but it opens PDFs perfectly.

        Hello,

        on smartphones (and on PC), a simple browser (relatively recent) is enough! Otherwise for smartphones there is Drive (built-in by Android) which reads PDFs perfectly.

        Why bother with extra apps?

        In short, no need for extra apps as long as you’re up to date.

        NB: why do you feel *obliged* to respond systematically? It’s really a question I’m asking, and I’m not the only one.

        Hello,

        in the absence of precision, the case of the smartphone had not been covered.

        A few of the contributors here do this for everything and the rest for obscure reasons, even for example when they have nothing better to do than barely remind decorum, perhaps in the hope of making their vote count boil over, or on such a topic they have never heard of.

        I feel like I only do it when I deem I have a precision to add, rightly or wrongly, but I’m sorry even if this would be considered as the last case of not—as you imply—being able to hold the truth about everything and the rest.

        You are therefore not obliged to read me and/or to accompany me with disobliging comments as well.

        I personally refuse to use Drive, which right is apparently contested as well.

        I refuse to install N apps, each more useless than the next, more or less intrusive, more or less malware-filled, etc., etc. :-)
