Problem with Open Office spreadsheet

Hello
I installed Open Office on my PC.
Recently I was sent a large data table typed in Excel (it has 95,000 rows and a dozen columns).
But this file contains quite a few errors and its presentation is not very easy to read. Since the file in Excel is locked I can't modify it.
I therefore started to copy the file to Open Office, but I can't save beyond the 65,536th row. I’m missing about 30,000 rows of data!
So I created a second file to copy the rest, but from the 4,800th row it blocks again
How can I copy the entire folder/files under Open Office? And if possible in a single file? Or how can I unlock the file to modify it?

    Hello.

    It's very simple: You ask the person who sent you the file what the password is to unlock it …

    The retirement is good! Especially in the Antilles...

    It changes nothing; you must obtain the password for the protected cells or for the entire document depending on the case.

    OK, but in this case Excel isn’t going to do you much good; in computing it’s 0 or 1, there’s no 1/2, so if you search for REYNAUD and the column is alphabetically sorted by name, you may never see RAYNAUD or RAINOT, which will appear much earlier in the order.

    I’m repeating (for the third time) my question, but I’ll write it in bold so you’ll see it clearly: have you tried with "Base" instead of "Calc"?

    If the workbook has been protected in Excel with a password, you will indeed be unable to modify anything.


    A long time ago, OpenOffice could open a protected .xls document, but that is no longer possible.

    Unlock your document and it will be operable with AOO (aside from macros, of course, because the language is different).

    Personally I find it totally absurd to put 95,000 lines of data into a spreadsheet, but that's just my personal opinion about me myself.

    Would it not be possible to integrate your data into the "Base" of OpenOffice?

      It depends on what they contain.

      Calc limits:
      1,024 columns,
      1,048,576 rows,
      10,000 sheets.

      This file is the record of all notarized deeds of Maurienne (Savoie) between 1697 and 1800. It is intended to aid genealogists. Unfortunately it is organized by commune, then by year. And I would like to search by family name.

        Hello Andromède.

        If it really is "the recording of all notarial acts of Maurienne" I don’t see how you can claim that "this file contains quite a few errors"!

        That would be gravely serious!

    Since Calc has almost the same limits as Excel (1,048,576 rows) - except for the number of columns (16,384) - why can’t @Andromede73 retrieve more than 65,536 rows?

    @Andromede73 StatusMember have you tried with “Base” instead of “Calc”?

    NB: the fact that it is sorted in a certain order does not prevent the search
