Unable to add an email account in Outlook.

Hello everyone,

I have been using Outlook for a long time as my email software, hosting several addresses from wanadoo, gmail, outlook, and yahoo.

For several days now, one of my wanadoo addresses was no longer sending messages that were returned to me as errors, but I continued to receive incoming messages; the other addresses continued to work normally.

Unable to resolve the issue, I thought I would do the right thing by deleting this account, but the result is worse because I can't reinstall it!

Praise to anyone who can help me solve this problem, thank you in advance!

    Hello

Is this account linked to your current plan and not inherited from a canceled previous plan?

"I can't reinstall it!" what do you mean?

At what point does it get stuck?

Hello and thank you for your response JYP29200,

I have an Orange plan with a box for phone, TV, and internet for several years, and I managed to set up several addresses on Outlook, including the one at wanadoo which is now causing me problems, whereas I have another wanadoo that works well, as well as another gmail and even one on yahoo.

After deleting this wanadoo account in hopes of correcting the recent issues (receiving incoming messages but unable to send outgoing messages), I attempted to use the "add an account" function on Outlook, which then asks me to specify the concerned address and then the code, which I do, and I then encounter an IMAP pop-up "Waiting for your email provider" which hangs for long minutes to eventually end up with the message "The connection failed. Please try again in a moment. You may need an app password."

    Hello JYP29200,

I've already done that but it doesn't work. After a long discussion and search for a solution with Orange technical support, it seems that the problem comes from Outlook, which needs to be updated; I will do that, unless Outlook has identified the problem. If that’s the case, the technician assumes that Outlook should resolve the issue very quickly.

In the meantime, I will check if I can update my version of Outlook, and if it still doesn't work, I will switch to another email software.

Thanks again and maybe see you soon,

    SD

    What version do you have?

The old ones did not receive updates for TLS and remained on TLS 1.1 while Orange requires 1.2

@ JY29200, does this mean that I will never be able to reinstall my wanadoo account on Outlook?

You need to have a recent version of Outlook.

Or use the (light) version provided by the Microsoft store. (Outlook for Windows)

    Nope.

I have a recent version of Outlook that I even uninstalled to reinstall, but it still doesn’t work (it's impossible to add the only one of my addresses that causes a problem, whereas the other three reinstall without trouble).

My operator's technical support (Orange) was very cooperative and eventually suggested giving up Outlook in favor of Thunderbird, which indeed causes fewer issues, but I would really prefer to stay with Outlook…
