Sound disappears after returning from sleep mode

Hello,

Here is my problem:

The sound from the computer works correctly when I start it, but if I put it to sleep, it no longer works, or at least is almost inaudible when waking from sleep. I had never had this problem in the 4 years I've been using this computer. I therefore have to restart it to regain normal sound, until the next sleep mode.

I checked all the drivers, all are correct and up to date. I also checked the audio services, all are operational in automatic mode. I contacted Microsoft customer service. They fiddled with the services, with no result, and I had to restart several of them myself. I uninstalled the last two Windows updates (which roughly correspond to the date the problem appeared), still with no result. There are quite a few discussions online about the subject, but none have worked for me either.

Furthermore, for several days now, the security patch (KB5094126) (26200.8655) that might resolve the issue has not been able to install.

I am on Windows 11 Home, version 25H2.

What can I do?

Thank you for your help.

    Good evening,

Sorry, MPMP10! I thought the responses would be notified to my email address. As a result, I didn’t check the forum.

I just looked at your links, but they don’t address the problem.

I also tangled with HP support with no results.

Perhaps an application is interfering after the previous day’s session.

    Mystery...

    Awaiting new suggestions.

    Regards to you.

    Papirusse.

    Good evening,

For Windows Update, have you tried the manual installation:

    Disk space is required.

For the sound driver, it is possible that a new driver is installed but not signed, not validated by Windows 11.

    Good evening Kori-Kori,

Thank you for your two responses.

But I can't open the Microsoft Update catalog.

Whether in Firefox or Edge, nothing happens.

I had also tried to restore, with no result.

Since then, other Framework security patches have been installed, without any improvement.

I am therefore forced to leave it on permanently or to restart if I want to have sound after sleep. We get used to it, but it isn't normal.

For at least 15 days now, a "Preview update (KB5101684) (26200.8973)" has been failing to install, neither automatically nor manually.

Maybe it will eventually go through and fix this bug?

    One can always hope...

    Best regards.
    Papirusse.

      Good evening,

Could you describe your hardware please, exact brand and model?

Is there still free space on your hard drive? Some updates are resource-intensive.

What do you mean by opening the Microsoft Update catalog; a click on the blue link and it will display?

    Hello Kori-Kori,

My computer is an HP Victus 15L Gaming Desktop TG 02

Processor AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 8GB RAM with Radeon Graphics..

    Windows 11 Home Version 25H2

The hard drive is only half used.

As for the Microsoft Update catalog, I opened it with Microsoft Edge. It blocks with Firefox which I usually use.

But it does not offer the download of the pre-release update (KB5101684) (26200.8973) which stubbornly refuses to install on my machine.

    Thank you for your help.

      Hello,

Is the session open under a Microsoft account or a local account?

      Do you have antivirus?

If you install a proposed driver, check afterward whether Windows Update performs a Realtek update; that could be a lead...

The session is under a local account.

I use antivirus software, but I regularly disable it to facilitate updates, but without effect on the pre-release in question.

I just reinstalled the Realtek driver offered on HP Support (sp153187), which I check regularly.

It does not appear in Windows Update driver updates. No Realtek update. Probably because it’s the driver that was already in place. This is not new.

And still no resolution to the bug...

    Have a good evening!

    Try sp141858, reboot...

    What is the antivirus, please?

    I tried the sp141858.

    No result.

The antivirus is Kaspersky Total Security. I should have changed it, of course, but habit and laziness...

But after years of use, it doesn't give me any trouble.

Have you performed the manipulations with the antivirus completely disabled?

For the MAJ go to the disk containing Windows "C", Windows, SoftwareDistribution, Download, delete all content.

+ clean with the Windows tool (sponge/broom)

    Restart and run WindowsUpdate

    Good evening Kori-Kori,

I think we’ll have to end this discussion.

The reason: I downloaded a BIOS update from HP Support Assistant, and I did everything as requested. Result: after reboot, a black screen that won’t go away. I battled for two hours with HP customer service, impossible to fix!!! The BIOS must be corrupted.

I’m heading toward replacing the motherboard, or the computer??? (four years old!!!...).

In that case, my sound problems will be obsolete, by force of circumstance!

Thank you anyway for your advice and your efforts.

    Sincerely.

    Papirusse

Thanks, but I did that, and it doesn’t work. Corrupted BIOS?

    Hello,

And removing the CR 2032 battery for several minutes?

    Hello,

    Thank you for your concern.

I have left the computer with a repairer I trust.

If he cannot find a solution, I will pass along your suggestion to him.

    Have a good day.

    Hello Kori-Kori,

My repairer simply disconnected and then reconnected a jumper/cavalier on the motherboard, which caused a BIOS reset, and everything returned to normal with minimal cost and no damage. I wouldn’t have been able to locate it myself. But disconnecting the CR 2032 battery can also do the job, apparently, and it’s easier to find indeed.

    So, just so you know.

HP was already offering me a new device...

Regarding the sound, my repairer didn’t have time to deal with it.

I can manage for now without restarting by going to the Device Manager and disabling, then re-enabling the Realtek Audio driver under the “Sound, video and game controllers” category each time I return from sleep. It’s a bit tedious, but less so than rebooting every time.

I’ll stick with that, for now at least.

    Have a good evening.

    Good evening Papirusse2,

    Thank you for the update.

Try disabling Fast Startup in the Control Panel to see if it helps; otherwise, re-enable it.

Restart each step of the process.

    Hello Kori-Kori,

Thank you for this new suggestion, but it still doesn’t work!

I’ll just disable and re-enable the Realtek Audio driver. It’s tolerable. Perhaps a future update will fix the issue.

    Have a good day.

    Papirusse.

It is possible that the power-saving feature is disabled for this device.

    Hello,

Is there a way to block driver updates by Windows by using Group Policy; but you need a Pro or Enterprise version.

Nevertheless, it is possible with Windows Home but after some manipulations. Tutorials are available.
