Hello

I had my free email account compromised and asked Free's abuse department to unblock it, which they did.

And here’s what they replied:

"You are using the Microsoft Outlook application

Indeed, your account was blocked due to connections from Microsoft servers (which is abnormal behavior: connections usually come from the user's terminal). After analyzing the issue, it seems that the Outlook application transmits user account credentials to Microsoft servers and that connections to your accounts are made through these servers.

According to our observations, Microsoft retains your credentials and continues to access your mailbox even when you are not using Outlook or after you have uninstalled it.

This does not appear to be an abusive use on your part, but we believe it is important to inform you of the confidentiality problem that this may pose regarding the content of your email inbox
and regarding your credentials.”

Can someone explain to me the meaning of the response above that they gave me as I didn't quite understand?

Thanks in advance

Hello,

Outlook.com doesn't just sell statistical data to everyone; it can also collect user identifiers and use them to process emails from third-party applications or whatever it wants.

Free is right to warn that the only person with access to the identifiers and able to read the messages is the user themselves.

In the absence of settings to stop this behavior, the solution involves changing the email management either for the Outlook software itself (in the Office versions) or for a standalone software like Thunderbird.

Thank you for your reply, but I use Outlook from the Office package and not outlook.com.

I don't understand.
