Hello,

I'm going to talk to you about a game that's now 10 years old, The Witcher 3 \o/
I know I'm late, but I got it on sale about 3 years ago and at first, I didn't get into it at all because I found the controls quite tricky.

Recently, I wanted to give it another try because I was disappointed that I couldn't play it, the fantasy atmosphere really making me want to try. I attempted to play with a controller and I admit it was better BUT unfortunately, I prefer keyboard/mouse.

The big issue for me with the controller is that you have to choose between seeing your enemy or hitting them \o/ the right joystick controlling the camera, so I can't turn it while hitting the enemy. Geralt is facing an enemy I can't see, it's really poorly done (not) so I'd like to try again with keyboard/mouse to at least be able to turn the camera quickly when necessary.

Going into the settings, I remembered the BIG issue with the controls: it’s impossible to have one key for two actions (or more).
For example: Left Shift to Sprint with my character BUT Left Shift to sprint with the horse, that's not possible... In the end, you end up with ONE key for each action, it feels like you're performing a keyboard solo for little reason. It's really not practical at all...

So here I am asking you: is there a way to reassign the keys intelligently as we wish without the game telling us that we can't use "SOMETHING" because it's already being used elsewhere?

While searching a bit, I found other people who don't like this unique key system talking about an .ini file but I don't have enough knowledge about these things to know how to do that (or even where to look).

Could you help me? Because in my opinion, either I can play with keyboard/mouse (for that cameraaaa) or I definitely won’t play it because playing with the controller I mess up quite a bit in fights because of this camera that can't follow the action and it's mega frustrating.

Thank you very much in advance, I have no doubt that among you someone will be able to help me.

Hello,

I don't know how good it is or if it's really ergonomically interesting, but there is a hybrid between a keyboard and a gamepad like the Razer Tartarus.

"It is not possible to use 'TRUC' because it is already used elsewhere?"

It's not complicated to reassign the missing keys, you didn't get that.

For the mods, look for tutorials with the .ini files.

Is it possible in the game to have one button for multiple actions? Like my example of sprinting with our character and using the same button to sprint with the horse.

Because when I enter a button that is already used elsewhere, the first one gets erased and therefore does not "double" :/

Maybe there's something I missed in the menu.

For The Witcher 3, I don't remember, but on many PC games in the settings, there are several columns to assign actions to the keys we want.

I just looked again but their setup is really poorly done compared to what I need to do :/

It seems to have been rather "optimized" for the controller in my opinion, and once you switch to keyboard/mouse everything goes haywire. And with the controller, the camera is all over the place so it's pointless, the character is spinning around everywhere and the camera moves as slowly as if it were in a walker.

Oh well, this game is definitely not for me :D

Thanks anyway =)

You're welcome,

Indeed, it's a shame for the game, it forces you to play on easy, which I did when I played it for fun.

After that, you can try to find some mods.

Hello,

I know because I almost bought one for digital drawing (to simplify my shortcuts) but it's too expensive and I think, compared to all the keys that the game requires (since you can't have multiple actions on a single key), a Tartarus or a miniature keyboard of this type wouldn't have enough keys available to play it ^^

Apart from the Tartarus, most of them are usually half-keyboards that are often QWERTY and only offer the left keys of a normal keyboard.

For QWERTY, if some games require it and you don't want to reassign the keys every time, you simply need to add the U.S. layout in Windows to switch from an AZERTY layout to a U.S. QWERTY layout with a single click.
