Hello,

I'm having an issue with Linux Mint Cinnamon (on which I've installed the Gnome desktop) on my Lenovo X230 laptop:

There were 11 updates to be made, including the GRUB manager... which caused a problem:

During the update of Grub, a lot of lines of code were scrolling for over ten minutes and it didn't stop, I thought it was a bug, so I closed the window without waiting for it to finish.

And when I try to restart the updates, a message tells me "another process is using the package manager," and I'm afraid that if I restart, I won't be able to boot anymore.

Side note: the update manager is often unstable: when I launch it, sometimes it closes by itself and I have to relaunch it.

What should I do, please?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards.

Hello,

In Mint, there is timeshift which is installed by default and allows you to revert to a previous version of the OS (provided that a backup has already been made).

Hello,

@Eglantier3333 StatutMembre Please avoid screenshots when a copy-paste will do (it would be more convenient for us to read and search your error message).

Use of uninitialized value [1] in join or string at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/DbDriver/Stack.pm line 112. Use of uninitialized value, <GEN0>

Furthermore, updating via the command line would likely help to better understand what's wrong:

sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade

Let's return to your problem and find out which package provides the offending file:

sudo apt update sudo apt install apt-file sudo apt-file update apt-file search /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/DbDriver/Stack.pm

... the last command returns:

 debconf: /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/DbDriver/Stack.pm

debconf seems poorly configured, so we can try the command suggested in this link (supposed to reconfigure this package) to see if it helps:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure debconf

You can also check out this discussion thread?

Good luck

Hello Jns55,

Thanks for your response and your help. I rebooted before I could read your message, I took a big risk, but in the end, I managed to restart without any problems, phew.

When I had Ubuntu, I remember that Timeshift crashed when I tried to restore the system, and I always fear that it will happen again.

Hello Mamiemando,

Thank you for your response and your help.

I don't know why, I took a photo instead of making a screenshot... :XD

I’ll think about copying and pasting next time.

I’ll check all this tonight or tomorrow and let you know.

Thanks.

Best regards.

Good evening Mamiemando,

I haven't looked at or tried to install BlendOS again. In fact, this is my third very bad night in a row, and I'm not in a good shape to deal with it, I'll wait until next week.

Thank you.

Best regards.

Good evening Mamiemando,

It really hasn’t been great lately; I've been very sick since Sunday, with quite a bit of fever, a lot of dizziness, confused thoughts, severe pain, difficulty breathing at times, blurry vision, and excessive sweating at times. The pharmacist told me over the phone that when they saw me come into their pharmacy on Tuesday, they were worried because I couldn’t walk straight.

I probably won’t be reinstalling BlendOS for a good week.

Best regards.

Hello Mamiemando,

I have thought about BlendOS on my HP laptop and I've decided that it's not really worth it since I have to buy a new battery anyway because the one in the laptop is not really good anymore; I often have to keep it plugged in.

I prefer to wait to buy another laptop, a decent one, but not right now.

In the meantime, I'm continuing with Linux Mint Cinnamon with GNOME desktop on my Lenovo x230.

I would like to refine it a bit more. Is it possible to optimize it to run faster?

What do you think of these tips? (but I don't really understand much to apply them):

Thanks in advance.

Best regards.

Excellent choice :-) Does this mean we can mark this discussion as resolved?

I would like to fine-tune it a bit more. Is it possible to optimize it to run faster?

This is a new topic, please copy this question into a new discussion thread and I will try to respond to it ;-)
