Unable to connect to the Bitdefender server

Hello, I finally uninstalled Malwarebytes and installed Bit Defender Total Security. Apparently, it installed well, but when I try to connect to the server: connection impossible, please try again later... I contacted the support service by phone. They suggested 6 solutions that don't work: changing the DNS address, temporarily disabling the Windows firewall, reinstalling Internet Explorer 11 which no longer exists (I use Firefox and not Edge: is that the problem?). Then I pressed Windows + E to show C/programs\bitdefender\bitdefender:\security\App and double-clicked on supportool: the first mention does not appear...

I will end up regretting getting Bitdefender, unless someone explains how to get out of this... I'm not even sure I'm protected!

Thanks in advance for your insights!

    Hello,

First of all, please make sure that your MalwaresBytes Premium subscription has indeed been canceled: uninstalling is not enough. You need to go to your account.

As for BitDefender, the proposed solutions are the same ones I would have suggested.

Worse, you are just reproducing the previous problem.

Also, if there are any actions to solve this issue, they are not "turnkey" solutions, making them unsuitable for a novice in computer configuration.

In such a situation, it is better to back up your data (desktop/documents/images/downloads) on an external drive, list the installed programs, and start with a complete reinstallation.

Make sure to retrieve your license key (link) before the operation.

Equip yourself with an 8GB USB flash drive and go directly to the Microsoft website for reinstallation.

    Hello,

Microsoft already has a free antivirus (for Windows 10 and 11...) which is effective, so there is no need to install another third-party antivirus.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/protect-my-device-with-windows-security-1a5b8102-c93d-0573-8fd3-b2d33a1e5386

Otherwise, for another free third-party antivirus:

    https://www.kaspersky.com/downloads/free-antivirus

Avast is no longer considered a very recommendable software.

    For Avast, see here:

What version of Windows are you using?

And I add that I have Windows Defender that may be conflicting with Bitdefender. I disabled it to see when I try to connect to the Bitdefender server, but it's still impossible. On the other hand, I hadn't disabled it during the Bitdefender download, and it might have prevented the loading from completing properly ???

Solution: request the download link again and install while disabling Windows Defender? No risk? But since I already have a Bitdefender account with my email and password, there is a risk of conflict: I won't change my email or password because I've tried and I am well registered on Bitdefender ....

Thank you very much MPMP10, I went along with your opinion after discussing it with others. I removed Bitdefender without any problem relying on Windows Defender.

I am reporting the topic as resolved.

Thank you luckydu43, but how can I log into my Malwarebytes account without the lost activation key? It no longer appears in the installed software anyway. Apparently, I’m not the only one having installation issues with Bitdefender according to several forums....

As for reinstalling Windows, given my computer knowledge, I certainly wouldn’t dare do it...

The only option left is to remove Bitdefender again and take the free Avast, but if there's any remnants of Malwarebytes or Bitdefender that prevent me from installing it....

I should have never removed Malwarebytes... In the end, it was enough for me...

      Hello,

You didn't say whether you have a Bitdefender subscription (purchased or free version) (they’ll still charge you if purchased even if uninstalled, mistake not to make... check your bank if...)

Click on the Bitdefender icon on the taskbar or in the hidden icons still on the taskbar next to the clock, check the antivirus options.
There’s an Unsubscribe option (it's a bit of a hassle)

      Additionally, you installed Malwarebytes.

It’s probably causing issues or conflicting with Bitdefender that was poorly uninstalled.

      Must be uninstalled properly.

      Revo helps.

In the worst case, you can reset Windows while keeping your files.

Specify your version of Windows for the procedure.

Since you have Edge, it's from W8 to W11.

Little misunderstanding, pistouri, I probably didn't express myself well: I had Malwarebytes Premium (paid) which I uninstalled to get Bitdefender Total Security (paid). I hadn't noticed then that the Malwarebytes icon still remained on the taskbar; I removed it from my browser and restarted the computer.

But even after that, I can't connect to Bitdefender: when I click on the hidden icons, Bitdefender does appear but then asks me to log into my account, and if I enter my email and password that are well registered, the connection is denied. Contrary to what you thought....

Actually, I would like to know how to add Bitdefender as an add-on to Firefox; I looked in its settings but couldn't find how. I can't remember how I did it for Malwarebytes......

Given my computer knowledge, I wouldn't dare reinstall Windows. Thank you for your explanations, but they are not sufficient for my inexperience.

        Hello,

Add Bitdefender as a module to Firefox.

        Open Bitdefender

        Section ''Privacy'' --►Anti-tracker

And activate the Firefox module (extension).

        Basically :

                                                              --

        Source

I didn't say to reinstall Windows, but to reset Windows without losing your documents.

But you can also do a system restore, provided that it is enabled.

In the search box on the taskbar, type --►restore

Click on --►Create a restore point

        Click on --►System Restore

        Click on --►Recommended restore

        Then --►Next

(Or choose a restore point manually or you can choose a date)

Thank you so much, pistouri, but for Bitdefender, I don't have access to the server: so nothing is possible! As for restoring Windows, I installed quite a few drivers for my printer just before, and I can't quite remember when exactly, and I don't want to redo everything...
