Shortcut and bold "G" key no longer working

Hello,

due to the recent Windows update, the shortcut ctrl + G no longer works in Word to bold text. I've tried to fix the problem by going to:

File>Options>Customize Ribbon>Keyboard Shortcuts: Customize>Categories: All Commands>Commands: Bold>New Shortcut Key: ctrl + G>Assign

However, it didn't work... After trying several times and testing other things with my limited knowledge, even the bold "G" button in the toolbar is not working anymore. I can't bold the text.

Does anyone know how to reactivate the bold "G" key and the ctrl+G shortcut?

    Hello
in Office 2021 the shortcut is:
    Ctrl+Shift+B

Ctrl+G is certainly a personal setting created in the options

Windows updates are not related to Office, the latter can be updated via the Microsoft Store and by >File>Account in each element of the Office suite

Hello, thank you for your response.

Indeed, it is stated in the settings that the shortcut ctrl+shift+B should work, just like ctrl+B, but neither of them is functioning. I had added ctrl+G, because out of habit it suited me, but that doesn't work either.

I thought it was related to the update because several people I know experienced the same issue at the same time as I did. Some managed to resolve it, but their techniques did not work on my PC. After that, it is possible that I got the terms wrong; it was probably a Microsoft update.

        Hello,

The default shortcuts are (Word 2019) Ctrl+B and Ctrl+Shift+B, the second one works as expected but the first one, even though I haven't changed anything, calls Find and Replace.

Unless it's Microsoft 365, there are no updates and anyway not through Windows.

These shortcuts are integrated into the default template, which itself is integrated into the Word executables and is automatically recreated by default if it is missing.

If a Normal.dotm template has been created in a different location and/or with custom content, the original remains unchanged at:
        C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates
Show hidden files and, with Word closed, replace the one in use with this original template.

Otherwise, make an external copy of this file just in case, delete it, and restart Word which will recreate it, leaving only the need to customize it again if that was the case.

    Hello,

In Options > Customize Ribbon, there is a Reset button.
Use it to return to the default settings.

What is well conceived is clearly stated,
And the words to say it come easily.

Hello, thank you for your response.

I have reset as you said, then closed and reopened Word, but nothing has changed; I still can't bold text using the "G" key or the shortcut ctrl+shift+B.

    Hello,

what default font do you have?
If it's a specific one, that could explain it.

By continually trying, we eventually succeed.

Besides the thank you (yes, yes, it happens!!!), remember to mark it as resolved. Thank you

In the options, you can add CTRL + G to the list of shortcuts for bold

    OPTIONS > Customize the ribbon

    Click on the "Customize" button

In "Categories", select "Home tab", then the "Command": "Bold"

    Add CTRL + G
