Hello,
Once and for all, how can you avoid having large spaces between words when justifying a text in Word or Open Office?
I read the opinions of users on forums discussing the problem, but apart from a ton of blabla, I see no clear answer.
Configuration: Windows / Chrome 78.0.3904.97

Good evening.
You are right! So I will be extremely clear:
1) One should avoid justifying texts, unless you are formatting a newspaper, magazine, or newsletter!
2) When you justify a text, it is essential to enable automatic hyphenation, or else spend time inserting hyphens to break long words at the end of lines to force the line break.
3) If you are a perfectionist, and not too rushed, use the HOME/Font/Advanced settings/Character spacing tool and, line by line, test positive (Expanded) or negative (Condensed) values in tenths of a point to harmoniously adjust these lines.
You practice on Word; then you will see how to adapt on Writer...
... and don’t say it lacks clarity!!!

It's a clear answer. I will keep the activation of the automatic word break in mind. Thank you, Raymond.

A confession: in my usual practice, the rare times I have to justify a text, I start with the automatic hyphenation and then refine it with character spacing...
