Sims 4 white screen issue

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with The Sims 4. I have an old computer that was repaired a few months ago, the hard drive was changed, and I now have an SSD, as well as a cleaned tower. Until this PC crash that required professional repair, we could play The Sims 4 without any major issues.

However, lately, we have been experiencing a problem where the game lags and then freezes. I have to return to the desktop using the Windows key, then go back to the game; sometimes we manage to play for a few hours, other times just a few minutes. When it starts to freeze, after a while, I get a white screen, and then I have to force shut down the computer.

I tried to find solutions, posted my issue on the EA forum, and after being asked to run a dxdiag, it resulted in an error: LivekernelEvent 141.

All my drivers are up to date, as is my graphics card.

In a last-ditch effort, I reinstalled Windows while keeping my files, ran a dxdiag again, and there was no more LivekernelEvent 141.

Confident, I reinstalled The Sims, restarted the game, and the same problem occurred. Again I ran a dxdiag, and the error that was gone returned.

So I’m reaching out to you for help in resolving this issue.

I hope I was clear in describing my problem.

Thank you all.

Have a nice day

Cécile

    Hello,

Before blaming hardware failure (temperatures, RAM, or graphics card), has the game been uninstalled and reinstalled during the complete reinstall? Does it run with additional content or unofficial mods?

If the answers are 1. Yes 2. No, the game files are not to blame and the cause is hardware-related. Otherwise, try reinstalling the game or at least check the files (Steam offers this option if it’s the launcher).

Temperatures: MSI Afterburner, compatible with all brands, launching it during the game will give you a graph of all the temperatures of the PC. It may require a bit of configuration to adjust the display according to your preferences.

There is also HWMonitor, simpler but less comprehensive.

For the RAM, here is my process. In your case, it will be longer, each of the 4 test cases requiring a launch of Windows and the game in degraded mode (since less RAM) to confirm the absence or presence of a crash.

For the GPU, the ideal would be to have another one.

      Hello,

thank you for your quick response. I don't think I uninstalled the game before launching the complete reinstallation. Currently, the game is running without any mods or additional content. I do know, however, that I uninstalled and reinstalled the game after the complete reinstallation.

I will try MSI Afterburner if the game runs long enough.

So yes, I know the graphics card is old, but until now I had never had any issues, and unfortunately, I can't buy a new one right away.

As for the RAM, that will indeed take me a bit of time.

Since the game is freshly installed, try uninstalling it with Geek Uninstaller, which will take care of removing residual files. Then reinstall the game from Steam or a safe channel that guarantees the latest updates available, as this will eliminate any game-related issues and allow you to focus on the PC itself. I have noted that the drivers are up to date and Windows is freshly installed, leaving not many software options.

Edit: I added the links in the post #1
