Maxtor password

Hello,

I have a Maxtor external hard drive that opens without difficulty on my old Mac. Now, on the new one, it is asking me for a password. How can I recover a password that I never set?

      Hello,

      I'm not sure there is actually a password, aside from the read-only access; the situation could be the result of a Time Machine backup that was ordered and encrypted on the old computer, or like in the Windows world, permissions that were not granted because the "administrator" of the new computer is considered new, but Mac and I are not on the same page...
