Good evening everyone,

An application that takes up a lot of memory has been installed on my PC and I don't know how, and I can't delete or disable it.

It's called VmmemVSA and it's apparently an application for Linux.

I'm on a Windows 11 PC.

(I don't know which forum I should post my request on)

    Hello,

    WSA (not VSA) is the subsystem, not for Linux (WSL) but for Android on Windows 11.

    There’s no reason for it to run if we haven’t activated it.

    If for some reason we have done so, it will obviously consume resources when we use it, and we can limit it in the meantime by setting the relevant virtualization services in services.msc to manual-stop instead of automatic.

      The basic question is whether we need a virtual machine and if so, which one.

      Management comes in at 3 levels: BIOS, Windows functions, specific programs.

      If we don't use any, we disable virtualization in the BIOS and talk about something else; otherwise, we leave the BIOS enabled.

      If we use a Windows hypervisor (and notably but not only WSA/WSL), we also need to activate in Control Panel - Programs - Turn Windows features on or off those concerning virtual machines/hypervision.

      If we use a third-party virtual machine (VMWare, Virtual Box...), we only need the BIOS function, and we must disable Windows hypervision.

    Thank you very much, Brucine, for taking the time to help me, but I must admit that I didn't understand much of your explanations because I'm not very experienced in computers. I just want to know what it is for and whether deactivating it can affect certain functionalities.

      I told you, it's useless if we don't have a virtual machine (running a second operating system on the first, including the Android games and applications that can only be launched in WSA mode, I can't know that for you).

      If not, check as I mentioned earlier that the virtual systems are not enabled in the control panel (if so, uncheck them) or more radically, you enter the BIOS by tapping the F key of your PC brand at startup (depending on the brand, it can be F2, F8, F10...), and disable virtualization there.

      Come back if you run into issues, but after making sure there’s nothing you’ve downloaded that runs on Android (games, but also the mobile version of WhatsApp installed on PC, for example), there shouldn’t be any particular difficulties either through the control panel or the BIOS.

        It's WhatsApp for my mobile phone, I suspected it. So, I'm not changing anything.
