Blue screen at startup - need help reinstalling Windows

Hello everyone,

I hope I'm in the right category: I'm seeking your expertise because I'm facing a problem with an old PC that I would like to recycle as a streaming PC. However, as soon as I enter my credentials, I get a blue screen with the message "The connection by the gpsvc service failed, access denied."

Planning to reinstall Windows, I tried to download a Windows key, but I'm facing difficulties since the only other computer I have is my work computer, on which I’m not allowed to use the software to create the key. My main personal computer is a Macbook.

I'm open to using an alternative operating system if it would help resolve the issue. I would appreciate any help or suggestions to solve this problem.

If you have ideas on how to reinstall Windows without using another Windows PC, or if an alternative to Windows would be more appropriate, I'd be grateful.

Thank you in advance for your valuable assistance.

Hello,

reinstall Windows without using another Windows PC

Your user profile is apparently corrupted.

When Windows is running, force it to shut down by holding the power button, then restart Windows, then force it to shut down a second time; after that, on the third restart, Windows will automatically launch the recovery options.

Afterwards, look for "Refresh your PC"...

Which version of Windows?

Thank you very much for your response MPMP10, it's Windows 10. I followed the procedure and ended up on this screen in English:

boot - Windows PC starting up and opens "Choose an Option" screen - Super User

I imagine that continuing wouldn't help, and I wasn't able to create a USB drive as I mentioned in my post. Could you please confirm the next steps for me? Thank you very much.

You need to go to this one:

The same capture in French:

Next (before resetting it, complete the PC ...) check the "advanced options" tab and look at the "System Reboot Tool" tab.

I have several choices:

Reset this PC
> Keep my files

> Remove Everything (that's what I tend to pick)

Advanced options
> Startup Repair
> Startup Settings
> Command Prompt
> Uninstall Updates
> UEFI Firmware Settings
> System Restore

More recovery options
> System Image Recovery

Do you know what I should select please?

Thank you, I did "reset this PC" then it didn't work from "Cloud" so I did "Local Reinstall", then "Fully Clean my drive".

After the reset, I received a message:

"A configuration change was requested to clear this computer's TPM (Trusted Platform Module)

WARNING: Clearing erases information stored on the TPM. You will lose all created keys and access to data encrypted by these keys.

Press F12 to clear the TPM

Press ESC to reject this change request and continue"

I pressed F12. When I restart the PC, I do not get the Windows startup as if it were the first time, I return to the screen that asks me for my login credentials, and I again have the access denied message.

Thank you for sharing the links, the PC is a DELL.

I went into the BIOS SETUP to access the TPM menu, I cleared it, reset it, but it didn't change anything, and I went back to the menu to "disable" the TPM, I repeated the process and unfortunately, it didn't change anything...

If you have any other advice, thank you in advance.

Hello,

In fact, I use a MacBook on a daily basis, and I wanted to do some streaming, but my Mac can't handle that many activities at the same time. I had this PC that my brother gave me lying around, so I wanted to see if I could use it as a secondary PC, and I got this error message when I tried to start it.

Maybe by reinstalling Windows.

Reinstall Windows 10 with a USB drive (Method 2)

Thank you very much, I believe if I understand correctly that I need to create a key from a device connected to Windows, right? As I said, I only have my Mac available, and my work PC doesn’t allow me to download programs. So my Mac is not connected to Windows...

Maybe I misunderstood? I do have an external hard drive though.

Hello,

I think you can use Etcher

https://github.com/balena-io/etcher/releases

You go to balenaEtcher-1.19.5-x64.dmg

But your external hard drive, no, it erases everything

Use a USB key of at least 8GB.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply, I have downloaded the .dmg file, so that's the one I need to burn using a software (I don’t know which one) onto a USB stick to create a bootable stick that will reinstall Windows on my old PC, right?

However, I only have my hard drive, no 8 GB stick, but I can see if there’s one lying around at work. Also, it doesn’t matter if it erases everything on my hard drive since I formatted it not long ago.

You need to download the Windows ISO file

Look on Google for "Windows 11 ISO" for example.

Etcher is used to create a bootable USB drive from an ISO file.

Oh, my apologies then, it was the other way around. Alright, if you have any recommendations for websites offering ISO files of Windows 10, please let me know, thank you very much.

Thank you very much. I downloaded the .iso file of the 64-bit version of Windows 10. I launch balena, select my file and my external hard drive, and I get the message:

"Possible Windows Image Detected

It looks like you are trying to burn a Windows Image. Unlike other images, Windows images require special processing to be made bootable. We suggest you use a tool specially designed for this purpose, such as Rufus (Windows), WoeUSB (Linux) or Boot Camp Assistant (MacOS)."

Do I need to download Boot Camp then?

I wrote to you :

But your external hard drive, no, it erases everything

Use at least an 8GB USB stick.

But I don't know much about Mac software, sorry.

Sorry you were right, I tried to burn the ISO file with Boot Camp Assistant on my external hard drive, but even though it is 1 TB, I receive an error message saying that there is not enough available space.

I will try to find an 8 GB flash drive at work.

With basic tools, it's possible to make a Windows HDD bootable from Mac, apart from brew.

Hello,

unfortunately, I couldn't retrieve a large enough key, so I'm trying the method shared by @steph810, thank you very much.

I'm currently following this method step by step, but I get stuck at this specific moment:

https://youtu.be/kAhthK5wjKw?feature=shared&t=332

I'm receiving this error message in the "Terminal" application (I've just masked my name, and WIN10 is the name I gave to the external hard drive):

For some commands IMAGE may be "all".

Some uncommon options are not listed; see `man wimlib-imagex' for more details.

Thank you in advance for your help!

a SPACE after split

wimlib-imagex split /Volumes/CCCOMA_X64FRE_FR-FR_DV9/sources/install.wim /Volumes/WIN10/sources/install.swm 4000

let me know if the command has started, and it's true, I forgot in the video.

copy all the content of the sources folder from the ISO to the destination except install.wim since we generate it

We can't see well but it's in the description.

It worked! You are amazing @steph810 StatusMember thank you so much!!

But on the other hand, I'm a complete idiot, because I realized that initially, before cleaning my external hard drive to put the ISO image on it, I had moved my documents inside to the desktop but I forgot part of them...

And the worst part is that these documents were originally on my desktop, and I had deleted them from the trash because they were on my disk... anyway, I don’t know if temporary files exist on Mac, but considering the cleaning I did, I think this is the price to pay for the other PC to finally work. Thanks for your help :)
