Hello, I had saved data (documents, photos, videos, etc.) on an IDE hard drive, but when I wanted to retrieve some data, a large part is impossible to open because there is a yellow lock on it, and the message says - you do not have the necessary permission to open these files, how can I solve this problem?

Hello petitgalop,
"because there is a yellow padlock on it": when you saved the files/folders, you also protected them with a password (hence the padlock).
The only way to access them is to type in that password.
If it wasn't you who protected them, then "someone else did it for you".

Happy New Year 2024!
Hello,
In my opinion, the operation won't be easy...
An IDE is not exactly new... the locks must indicate some sort of encoding, protection, or encryption... Impossible to know without being able to examine the content of the disk...
Depending on the location, temperature, and humidity, this disk may very well have become unreadable, or have "stuck" heads...
We would need to find the PC with its version of Windows and the encryption software from back then...??? to access the data that is hidden on it...
It might be doable...??? or not...
Here is a summary of the situation.... Happy New Year 2024..!!
Hello and Happy New Year 2024 to everyone,
I am the only one accessing this PC, and I don't remember setting a password, but the hard drive is working because I can access some files and documents. At that time, I had Windows 7 and then Windows 8.1.
This disk could very well compress files, to take up less space... And without you even realizing it... As long as it was on the initial PC... Now that this disk is on another machine, with a different OS and without the compression software, things are no longer the same...
