Connecting TS5150 printer to my computer

Solved

Hello,

I bought a second-hand TS5150 printer.
Not being very comfortable with computers, I can't connect this printer to my PC.
Yesterday, I managed to connect it to print and make copies.
But I've never been able to scan a document.
Today, I tried to start the installation from the ij-start-canon app and now nothing works.
I don't really know what to do anymore...
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello everyone,

Here is one of the possible causes of this error code.
Also see here.
Or here.

Happy holidays to everyone!

Hello txiki ......& Anna...

You have correctly identified the problem; I think the seller of this second-hand printer deliberately failed to mention that this printer had the error 5100 ....but I believe Anna should be able to troubleshoot with the solutions you provided...!

Unless the problem comes from the faulty print head, and in that case, I think it's over because you'll already have to find the part and at what price????

Happy holidays to you as well and good luck

Best regards

Hello @jmarion3 StatutContributeur and @txiki StatutContributeur,

Thank you for your feedback!

I've made some progress on this strange printer issue....
This morning, the error code didn't appear anymore.
I tried to scan a document with the Ethernet cable and it works!
However, I still can't print even with the cable.
The message is always the same: The printer is offline. While it is plugged in and switched on. This remains a mystery to me.

This afternoon, I cracked. I asked the person who sold me the printer to take it back and refund me. He agreed but doesn't want to take the printer back.
Here I am with 2 broken printers.... This one and my old one that broke down 2 weeks ago.

That said, now that there is no more error code preventing the printer from functioning, I should be able to make this connection!!!!
What is strange is that even with the Ethernet cable, the computer does not find the printer for printing while the connection is established during scanning.

What do you think?
Thanks again for all your suggestions. They are helping me to make progress little by little.

I wish you a lovely evening.
See you very soon.
Anna

"scan a document with the Ethernet cable and it works": so it's a network scan!
Why not use a USB cable for example?

Hello ....

The drivers for this printer are available on the Canon website ► Here

However, you didn't specify your PC's operating system ► Windows ...but which one ► 10 or 11

The link I provided is for W11 ► If W10, just change the operating system on the Canon website to get the one corresponding to your PC

If you don't have the user manual for this second-hand printer ► See this link

Cheers

See you

Hello Anna .....

If I understood correctly, the error B5100 has disappeared, and if that is the case, I suggest you do a clean and complete uninstallation of this printer using Revo Uninstaller ► Revo Uninstaller

If you are not familiar with this easy-to-use tool, take the time to read its instructions at the link provided above!

I'm suggesting this because we're not quite sure what has been done during all your installation attempts!

Once Revo Uninstaller has finished uninstalling ► Restart the PC ► Unplug the USB cable connecting the printer to the PC ► Do a new clean installation from the Canon site ► Here ►Download the Complete driver and software package for TS5100 series (Windows)

Cheers

See you+

Hello @jmarion3 StatutContributeur,

I really think that’s what I’m going to do on this first day of the year. Reset everything!
I will follow the clear and precise procedure you sent me.
Thanks again for all this information. It’s really great!

I wish you all the best for this year 2024.
See you very soon.

Hi again @jmarion3 StatutContributeur,

We're getting close to the finish line..

I have reset everything as proposed. I followed the procedure with Revo Uninstaller (it's actually quite simple). I uninstalled everything on my PC and restored the original configuration on the printer itself.
I reinstalled the driver from the Canon link on my computer.
I got a new screen on the printer asking me to enter the wifi key (which had never been the case before)
I also completed the installation on my phone.

In summary: Everything works well (copying, scanning, and printing) from my PC to the printer unfortunately USING a wired connection. As soon as I remove it, it tells me that the printer is offline.
However, if I print from my phone using wifi, it works.

I'm just a little bit away from perfection. :)

See you soon.

EUREKA !!

I restarted the printer and the PC and it's working without the cable!
It's a big day for me. I am proud of what I managed to do for someone who can't tell the difference between a USB cable and an Ethernet cable.

Thank you again for everything!
Anna

Hello,

Thank you very much for this detailed response.
I am using Windows 11.

I followed the link you sent me and did the manipulation with a cable because without the cable, I always had a message saying that the computer could not find the printer's IP address.
I think I have made good progress because now when I go to the settings where you can see "printers and scanners", it correctly shows Canon TS5100 whereas it wasn't the case before.
Everything went well until I wanted to do the print test. Then I got an error message on the printer's screen saying: Support Code 5100.
Apparently, there is something with the printer that prevents it from functioning properly.
I don't understand because yesterday the printer was working but not the scanner, while today it's nothing at all.
It's enough to drive me crazy!! :D

Anna
