RAM Compatibility

Hello,

I wanted to replace a 4GB RAM stick with an 8GB one of the same brand, but unfortunately, the computer doesn't seem to accept it.

The computer in question is a Fujitsu P520 e85+ with 4 memory slots for RAM.

I don't see a big difference between the two RAM sticks:

1 RAM: 4GB 1Rx8 PC3-12800U-11-13-A1

2 RAM: 8GB 1Rx4 PC3L-12800R-11-11-C2-D3

If anyone knows what the problem might be and/or how to determine the right type of compatible RAM?

Thanks in advance ;) !

Hello oblixx,

► Did you add it to the first one or just replaced it?

If added, it probably won't work because they certainly don't have the same cadence, frequency, etc...
They need to be absolutely identical, with the same specifications.

It also needs to be compatible with your PC, or rather its motherboard.

Try leaving just the 8 Gb one (bits and not bytes when talking about RAM).

Good luck!

Hello to both of you,

Also make sure that it is not soldered to the motherboard.

Hello, thank you for your responses,

Indeed, it's 8 GB, sorry.

The RAM is not soldered, and I forgot to mention that it's a tower.

I have removed the old 4 GB and placed the 8 GB in the same slot; as soon as I turn on the computer, it beeps to signal a RAM problem (1 beep every 2 seconds).

I was also wondering what the letters U and R mean after the module's speed?

...so the RAM references are not correct!

I was also wondering what the meaning of the letter U and R is after the speed of the module?

An example would be welcome?

This is what is directly marked on the RAM:

4GB 1Rx8 PC3-12800U-11-13-A1

8GB 1Rx4 PC3L-12800R-11-11-C2-D3

Same for the letter L after the PC3

I was wondering if this has an impact on compatibility.

Hello everyone,

I'm getting back to you because after several searches I finally managed to solve this mystery:

The "L" in PC3L means that the RAM is "lower power," but that’s not an issue here.

However, the "R" in 12800R means that the memory is registered, as opposed to regular unbuffered memory. This memory is intended for servers and high-end workstations, which makes my PC incompatible.

At least I know why now.
