Hello, I'm stuck on a problem that I can't find any solution for, nor has it been mentioned on a forum. Indeed, I still have a machine running Windows XP SP3. Whenever I try to install a software, .NET Framework or Foxit Reader, I get an error saying "The application has terminated due to a CTRL+C."
Do you have any leads? I've tried to do the updates (official) from Microsoft and it still doesn't work... It's the only one doing this to me.
The machine: Dell Latitude D630 with all original software.
I want to stay on XP because I want to restore it to its original condition and make it functional for my collection.
Thanks for your insights.

Hello,
I just tried an old version of Foxit, I archive many programs that I've used in the past, version 2.0 from 2007, it works on a VM XP. It's a portable version with a single executable. If you want, I can upload it for you.

Hello, why not, I'm trying to make it functional as an income in the 2000s.
So Office 2003, but for emails you need a PDF reader for attachments. And I'm stuck there.
Do you have other software like that?
Thanks!
Here it is: http://le.wiki.free.fr/temp/foxit_pdf_reader_2.0.1606_13808.zip
I actually use very few software, I probably have about ten installed on Windows, but I have a whole bunch of portable tools. This way, I have a lightweight C drive that I can easily backup and restore.
For my computer museum, I abandoned physical machines; just a few weeks ago I got rid of 5 machines. I have refocused on virtual machines, the oldest being a Windows 1 version from 1985.Thanks for the link!
If you're getting rid of your physical machines, I'm interested! I’m more into collecting old physical machines than operating systems. I like restoring them to their original and almost new condition (it's impossible to have them in new condition given their age). I enjoy restoring them.
Did you sell them? Or throw them away?

Hello,
A number of causes are documented here (in English), the most frequent one is the task scheduler, but you may also observe it if Windows Update is running in the background since Windows Update no longer works on Windows XP.

Other regular causes seem to be disk saturation, driver errors, system corruption.
Regarding updates, we can always try to install "SP4", perhaps unrelated but it doesn't hurt, and concerning the software you want to install, it must of course be in a version compatible with XP and with the correct 32/64 architecture.-
Thank you for your quick response.
I am on a clean installation, I just tried and I encountered this error I had never seen before. From there, I attempted to install all the updates with LegacyUpdate (I don't trust unofficial SP4s, LegacyUpdate will just rebuild access to updates from the Microsoft site).
I will try the registry trick (WU and rebuild it), I don't really believe in the cache because I had tried with the clean installation without anything on it. I will also try SFC Scannow, with DELL software you never know. They are protection software, maybe they could have modified the registry or the system files...
I’ll keep you updated. Thank you.

Well, in the end, nothing worked.. I ended up installing 7 and everything's fine with it, incomprehensible..
Thanks anyway for your help even though I couldn't solve my issue, if in the future someone comes across this post, they won't be able to fix their problem..
Thank you and have a good evening

By downloading from PCAstuces (why not) a supposedly XP compatible version (but remember that free versions are limited) I get an entry point not found error at the end of the installation and when launching.
I'm going out in a few minutes, I don't have time to hunt for the schmilblick, maybe I should look for an even older version on OldVersion or equivalent.
To be continued...
