Hello,

When I turn on my Thomson laptop, I see several lines beginning with BLK in yellow, and the last line says: press ESC in 1 second to skip startup.nsh any other key to continue.

I’ve tried pressing any key, but I can't get to my desktop.

Thank you very much in advance as I am a beginner.

Hello,

So I went to a coffee shop with my laptop under my arm, and someone managed to restart it on the desktop. Great, cool, but at home, after a few hours of working on it, it starts having issues again. Can you help me please?

Unfortunately, I didn't see the steps that the person took to fix my laptop.

All I know is that it only took them 15 minutes to do it and without any software.

Thanks in advance

If I'm not mistaken, he told me that he wasn't starting on the right disk, something like that.

So if he managed it in 15 minutes, I think there's definitely someone here who can easily provide me with the steps to follow ????

Hello,

You usually exit the error by typing exit which brings you back to the BIOS and allows you to choose the appropriate boot disk, that's probably what happened.

Aside from the unlikely scenario where you modified the BIOS or from a faulty hard drive, the error is due to corruption of the EFI or Windows boot partition, so it's necessary to repair one or the other, otherwise it will indeed happen regularly.

Thank you for your response, but I don't see the exit key. Is it the Esc key? Nothing happens when I press it.

The BIOS will only allow you to choose the boot disk, and if necessary fix an error (the booting would be set to BIOS-CSM-Legacy, the terminology depends on the brands) on a Windows installation in EFI on a GPT disk: it cannot boot. There is a default settings option (followed by Save, usually F10, then Exit).

Once out of the trap, you need to apply the fixes indicated in the link I mentioned; if the situation does not allow you to restart Windows at least temporarily (by choosing the correct disk), you need to repair Windows by forcing recovery (turning off and physically restarting the PC 3 times in a row after removing the battery if there is one) and selecting this option or by rebooting from a Windows installation USB flash drive, but you need to have one or prepare it.

The problem is that I don't know where to select the startup. Should I go to the Boot tab or Save and Exit?

Thank you

re

in the Boot tab

after selecting Boot, you need to save the change by pressing F10 and Yes

Thank you very much. In the Boot tab, I have:

Bootup numlock state (off)

Quiet Boot (enabled)

Boot option #1 (uefi built in efi)

Boot option #2 (Windows boot manager)

Fast boot (disable)

New boot option policy (default)

Is that ok?

Cool, so I'm back at the desk now, I hope it won't happen again because for the rest, I don't feel capable of doing it.

Oops, I found the update version 22H2 and I've just launched it. I should mention that the PC had been turned off for a while.

PS: when the update is finished, restart the PC and check again in Windows Update if new updates are available

PS2: also check for optional updates (drivers, etc...)

if you have any questions...

Hello,

thank you very much because for now my daughter is using the PC and there are no issues. I have carried out the (long) updates as well as the optional ones since there were quite a few.

To be continued
