Hello,

For those of you who are having trouble pinning Gmail to the Windows taskbar, try the procedures below:

==►Pin Gmail to the Windows taskbar

A similarly detailed, but older topic on the forum:

==►Gmail in the taskbar

Good luck to all.

Hello and thank you pistouri for your interesting solutions. For my part, I was already using the pinning method on Windows 10.

Hello Panth33,

There is quite a gap between W10 and W11, some registry keys no longer exist for example.

The right-click menu, W11 has nothing to do with that of W10, even with a Tip/Solution to revert to the classic right-click of W10, there's pinning but not where you need it.

You will see this if Microsoft forces an update to W11 one of these days.

In the meantime, various procedures had to be found to respond to the participant, and to make a reminder (Tip/Solution Sheet).

Bye.

Hello,

Just for the record, Krosoft has heavily "encouraged" the migration to Windows 11 for eligible machines, but unfortunately cannot do so for those whose processor or lack of TPM 2.0 prohibits it.

There is a good chance that users will continue with Windows 10 until the end of support (2025), or even later, judging by today’s number of Windows 7 users, which is far from negligible.

Hello,

What Microsoft says today isn't always valid the next day; this isn't the first time Microsoft has backtracked for the greater good of its users, but indeed there are limits and restrictions like TPM, which hasn't stopped me and others from upgrading to W11. Even CCM has contributed to proposing a workaround that was almost adopted by Krosoft.

It would be a shame to leave so many W10 PCs sidelined, which, as we've heard, would push towards the purchase of a new W11 PC or even W12 if it ever comes out.

End of parenthesis...

Hello,

In the meantime, check if this works:

==► Pin a website in Windows 10 or 11

See you!

Hello

---

One thing is certain, the "drag and drop" doesn't work on W11 for shortcuts.

Pining isn't even in the context menu W11 (right-click) to place the shortcut.

---

I'll come back later, time permitting, to explain two methods that work.

---------------------

---

----

--Notably with W11; with W10 perhaps the option is present, but since 2020 it seems that the registry key no longer exists.

With Firefox, it's impossible regardless of the operating system.

But with Edge and Google Chrome, it's possible.

See you later.

Hello,

In Windows 11, I don't know, but in Windows 10, nothing prevents you from dragging a shortcut from the desktop to the taskbar without pinning it, nor from creating a shortcut in Firefox for the URL you want by dragging the lock icon to the desktop first.

I personally have custom thematic folders in the taskbar: I will copy and paste the desired shortcut into the appropriate folder.

Hello Brucine,

create a shortcut from the desktop to the taskbar

That's the ideal solution (Drag and Drop)

But what if the option is missing?

For Windows 11, I would come back for the solution.

Also valid for W10 if necessary.

2 solutions to propose, tested and approved for the (e) intervenor and for the CCM community.

Bye.

I am not familiar with the behavior of Windows 11 in this regard.

I simply commented on the reported impossibility in Windows 10 to pin a shortcut with or without Firefox; it is possible, and I can verify this even less since I have removed this option from the context menu.

What grabs my attention a bit is the absolute necessity there would be to carry out this pinning at least in Windows 10, where, as I mentioned, a shortcut can be easily pulled to the desktop and/or the taskbar from anywhere without any problem.

Be patient Brucine, I am going to "edit" procedures for W11 and W10.

Don't limit yourself specifically to W10, the upcoming procedures will be valid for both W11 and W10.

When there is a forced update W10 and it is planned... already underway if you are following...

What are you going to do with W10?

Refuse them no matter the means employed!

As for the other operating systems, think it over!

Keep all of this in mind!

This does not change anything regarding the speaker's question.

Bye.

Hello,

2 years later:

It is possible as of today (end of 2025) to pin from browsers Gmail to the taskbar:

Hello,

Right-click on the Gmail icon and then click on "Pin to taskbar".

You can then optionally delete the shortcut on your desktop with a right-click.

Hello,

This "response," excessively upvoted, ignores the difficulties related to the differences between various browsers and different operating systems...

A practical guide (already mentioned in the thread) refers to these subtleties...

It is here: => https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-37915365-epingler-gmail-sur-la-barre-des-taches-windows

Good evening,

It's exactly like when you want to put several Explorers in the taskbar ...

the link must absolutely start with: : %SYSTEMROOT%\  then the name of your browser with the Gmail.com link

look here with the browser >>

Good evening

There's no point in rushing, take your electric bike, you'll tire yourself less,
Or go to the CCM site, you'll find what you need with its FORUM and its contributors who all know.

Hello Domy,

----

No connection to the speaker's question.

%SYSTEMROOT%\

---

Please be patient.

A solution, even two solutions will be posted on the forum. (CCM).

Patience..

This will help a lot of you: (W10+W11 in particular).

If it were that simple, it would already be in this post.

I will unfortunately have to repeat myself, it is not possible with Firefox ( FF for later for hoping a solution for the Dev FF) some browsers have already taken the lead… There aren't many at this time… but it's progressing. Thank you to them)

With Edge or Google Chrome it works, and that's already something!

Procedure to come... on the forum...

I promise!

Bye-Bye

We would all have liked to see a screenshot dated for today (Message 2).

Right-click on the Gmail icon and then click on "Pin to taskbar".

In a video (dated for today) on your PC or another PC, with today's date.

W10 or W11 or another operating system.

Would be welcome on the forum. (screenshot or video).

Thank you.

W11 it's not possible as explained.

Firefox even less so (Kudos to anyone who finds the solution).

Bye.
