Warning... Old wifi standard?

Hello,

I have a laptop that connects to the internet every day via the Wi-Fi of my Freebox. Like all secure networks, the Wi-Fi icon of my Freebox is accompanied by a padlock indicating that the network is secure.

Since yesterday, the padlock has been replaced by a warning icon. A message indicates that the Wi-Fi network of my Freebox is using an outdated standard.

However, I checked on my Free account, and the standard used is WPA (TKIP + AES)... which is actually recommended by Free.

I changed the WPA code (TKIP AES), but my laptop still indicates that the Wi-Fi network of my Freebox is using an outdated standard.

What do you advise me to do?

Thank you for your help.

Hello,

It is WPA2 - AES that is recommended by Free:

Everything else is outdated.

The setting is done in Freebox OS http://mafreebox.freebox.fr/

Indeed, with these old boxes, you cannot make adjustments with Freebox OS.

You either leave things as they are or change boxes. The subscription will be a bit more expensive.

The ideal would be for Free to cover the transfer fees; they sometimes have offers that you have to seize.

Otherwise, you have all the information on this site.

The capabilities of current boxes are incomparable to what the Crystal box offers you. Even the Freebox Revolution, which is already old, is leagues above.

Obviously, you can also change internet providers. The main thing is to get rid of this outdated box.

There is also the possibility to turn off the box's wifi and add a wifi access point next to it.

The problem could be due to the fact that it is still an ADSL network?

Hi

No, nothing to do with it

Which Freebox exactly?

If it's recent, you need to set the Wi-Fi standard through Freebox OS (as indicated by Pierr10) and not through your customer area

I believe it's the Crystal... Anything but recent...

When I go to Pierr10's link, I get the information about my free-box but I can't change anything.

Hello,

it's indeed a real relic.

Are you in a non-unbundled area with Free?

I believe only those who are still unbundled have these boxes.

Hello!

Not necessarily!

One of my close ones, totally disconnected, still has a box from that generation. They offered her a change with the arrival of fiber.

Hello,

The crystal is the white one with a "Tupperware" top, this one is even older. (The V5). I know people who still have this box, initially in a bundled zone, then unbundled a few years ago, but they have always kept the same one.

After that, it's simple:

unbundled == TV box included (HD, I believe, in this case)

not unbundled == no Free TV box

Thank you for this clarification.

However, I still wonder why this warning message has only appeared since yesterday. Why not earlier?

Probably a Windows update?

Or your antivirus?

Indeed, it is quite possible since it is following a restart of the laptop.

I am indeed in an unbundled area, as stated in my subscription.

T3chN0g3n: you're right, my free box is a V5.

In any case, I will plan to change my box.

I'm taking the opportunity to ask you (for those who know Free) which box to choose? knowing that I don't need TV and that I prefer a low-cost subscription.

- Mini 4 K?

- Revolution?

- Pop?

- Delta?

The mini 4K is no longer available.

The cheapest subscription is with the Freebox POP.

See the comparison of offers: https://www.free.fr/freebox/comparer-nos-offres-freebox/

They also removed the delta S, it was the same price as the pop, but without the TV?

It's not far off that they're going to remove the old V6 too, there won't be much choice left.

But anyway, with the others, there aren't any more options either.
