Hello,

I get the error message “(null) cannot be installed on 'Macintosh HD' because macOS 11 or later is required” when I try to install any app on my MacBook Pro running macOS High Sierra version 10.13.6 from 2018. I read that I should update the system, but I can't find how to do it; there's nothing in System Preferences and in the Software Update found in 'About This Mac' either.

Thank you

    Good evening,

If this Mac is indeed from 2018, you can install the latest versions of macOS, knowing that Mojave is the last version that can run very old applications still coded in 32 bits ...

    Hello,

In addition to Franetich's excellent answer, I just wanted to draw your attention to the possible consequences of a macOS system update.

If you have very old applications that are essential to your daily life (this also concerns printer and scanner drivers, ...), be aware that by changing your macOS version you risk no longer having access to them, as they may be incompatible with the new macOS system (because they are not adapted to the new macOS by their developer) or have become paid or ...

You need to carefully consider your need to update the MacOS system before installing it, as it will be very complicated, if not impossible, to go back afterwards (reverting to MacOS High Sierra in your case).

As advised by Franetich, upgrading to macOS 10.14 - Mojave is a wise choice as it maintains compatibility with applications encoded in 32-bit (today everything is encoded in 64-bit), keeping the door open for older applications and drivers.
That said, if your favorite application or your printer driver has not been adapted to macOS Mojave, you will have to either find another application or, in the case of the printer driver, purchase another printer...

So make a list of your essential applications and see if they exist in macOS Mojave or a more recent version.
Check if the drivers for your printer, scanner, ... exist in macOS Mojave or a more recent version.
Only decide what to do after these two actions based on the previous results.
