Hello,

I have been encountering this problem and this error message since I changed my password for iCloud access. I can no longer access my latest iCloud data from my iMac. I tried to re-enter the password in "System Preferences" but I am constantly interrupted by a window asking me to log in to "System Preferences" while the system is "processing" for hours to recognize my password, precisely after I have entered it in such a window...

I tried to follow the procedure recommended by Francis to Pierre in March 2016 on this site, but it seems that my menu is no longer the same. At the first recommended step to log out, the system does not ask me if I want to keep my data, but if I agree to have them deleted. In the second step, if I go there directly, when I want to type "Library," the system automatically changes it to "biblio" and I have not managed to find the key for the little "tilde"...

How can I reconnect my iMac to the iCloud data?

Thank you in advance for your advice and help,

Configuration: Macintosh / Safari 11.1.2

Hello,

Is the connection to iCloud from Safari working correctly?
This question is to confirm that the password entered is correct and that there is no typing error.

Then, the term Library is the specific term used in the Mac OS system, but it can automatically change to "Bibliothèque" when the Finder interface is in French. However, the term "Biblio" should not appear; it should normally be Library or Bibliothèque, but not Biblio.

Speaking of the little wave, I suppose you’re referring to the ~ symbol.
If so, you may be referencing a message I wrote myself on this forum, and in that case, if I did not specify how to obtain it, it is because I certainly asked to "copy and paste" a complete command as it is.

That said, I do not know what you want to do with this symbol without knowing the complete command.

So, questions:

- Is the connection to iCloud via Safari working well with the new password?

At the first recommended step to sign out, the system does not ask me if I want to keep my data, but if I accept that they be deleted

- Did you ultimately manage to "Sign out" in System Preferences / iCloud?

- And why did you want to sign out? To resolve the initial issue or to actually sign out?

- If you click on "Account Details" in System Preferences / iCloud... what does it say?

- What do you want to do with the command including the ~ symbol?

- Are your various data (Contacts, Calendars, Notes, etc.) normally synced with the iCloud account, and if so, are they still synced?

- Finally, which version of the OS is running on this Mac? (High Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Catalina, Mojave ???)

Best regards.

P.S.: The ~ symbol is obtained by pressing the alt and n keys together.

Hello and thank you for your interest in my problem.

I will answer your questions as precisely as possible:
- my main issue is that my iCloud data (calendar, contacts, photos, notes...) are no longer synchronizing on my iMac since I changed my password; my goal is to restore this synchronization;
- however, I can connect to iCloud on Safari with my new password without any problem;
- in my attempts to solve this problem, I did not log out in the System Preferences/iCloud because I was afraid of not keeping my data (message of this type); I was considering doing this because I saw, in one of your responses in 2016 to a similar issue, that it was necessary to log out, and I had understood that this would help resolve the issue I was facing;
- likewise, I had seen that you recommended entering ~/library/ and this is what I wanted to do;
- in "Account Details" after System Preferences and iCloud, I have a window where "Account Details" and "Set Up Family" are grayed out (not accessible) and I receive the following message: "Enter your password to continue using iCloud" (this is precisely where, when I enter my password, a multicolored wheel spins for a very long time and I ultimately get an error message); in this iCloud window, I can only enter my password or log out;
- the system on my iMac is OS X El Capitan (version 10.11.6).

Thank you for your patience, as I see that I did not provide sufficient information to diagnose my problem, and that this requires you to guide me step by step with command paths to provide a more precise preliminary report. I remain at your disposal to clarify any further points.
Thank you in advance for your help and best regards.

Good evening,

I can assume that the issue arises from the fact that in your Keychain, the password linked to iCloud is still the old password, and there is a conflict in password recognition, causing the system to get stuck in a loop, so to speak.

Note that if you log out, you won't lose anything, even if the data is not stored on the Mac, since once the sync is restored, you will get your data back.

But initially, we will delete the currently stored password in your Keychain. You will then need to re-enter it for iCloud in the System Preferences to accept the connection.

To do this, you go to this folder:

Applications / Utilities...

Here, you locate the application "Keychain Access",

you launch "Keychain Access", and in the search area, you type iCloud to display the lines of records related to iCloud.

You select all of them and delete them.

You exit Keychain Access.

From this point on, everything concerning iCloud will require you to re-enter the password and check the box to save the password in the keychain.

Example:

Also delete the highlighted lines in blue in your Preferences folder of your personal Library

To access your personal Library, and thus its sub-folder Preferences, go to the Finder menu bar, in the "Go" item while holding down the alt key, once in your library, navigate to the Preferences folder...
