External hard drive reduced from 500 GB to 32 GB

Solved

Hello,

Yesterday I had to reinstall Windows on my mother's PC using my external hard drive, but since then I've noticed I have 32 GB instead of 500 GB. I've tried tutorials online, but since I'm on Windows 11 it's not the same, so I can't find anything. Sniff.

Thanks in advance!

    Hello,

32 GB would be more like a USB stick / SD card than a hard drive ...

You should be able to access disk management on Windows 11 just like in previous versions, can you send us a screenshot?

    Example:

I didn't understand your approach. How do you reinstall Windows 10/11 on your mother's PC?

      Hello,

Give us a screenshot of the disk management of the family PC!

My external hard drive must have been formatted in order to install the Windows program on my mother's computer because that was the only solution; the computer was completely locked. But by formatting it, it "hid" the 460 GB I was missing. However, by going into Disk Management, I fixed the problem by reallocating the missing 460 GB. It's simple, but when you don't know...

Thanks to your screenshot, I was able to find the solution; there were indeed 460 GB unallocated. I deleted the 32 GB and added the 460 GB as primary. :)

Oh, but it’s your external drive that was down to 32GB! Okay, that makes sense now... Just make sure it’s formatted as NTFS and not FAT32; otherwise, format it correctly to NTFS before putting any files back on it.

It's good, it's in NTFS. Yes, it was indeed an external drive. Thank you :)
