500 GB external hard drive reduced to 32 GB!!! Solved

Question

Hello,

I have a 500 GB WD external hard drive. Due to a mistake on my part, the capacity of the hard drive has surprisingly been reduced to 32 GB!!!
How can I restore the original capacity of my hard drive?

Configuration: Windows 8 / Internet Explorer 10.0

If it doesn't work:
- Execute (Windows + R)
- Type cmd then press enter
- In the window that opens, type "diskpart"
- list disk
- select disk x (x being the number of your hard drive)
- clean
- create partition primary
- format fs=ntfs quick
- active
- assign
- exit
- exit

Formatting is what I did as a last resort but without success; the disk capacity remained at 32 GB.

Hi,

how did you format your hard drive? If you formatted it as FAT32, that's normal; Windows does not allow formatting larger than 32 GB in FAT32.

If you want to regain the full capacity, delete all partitions and reformat it as NTFS.

At first, I had formatted it as FAT32. Then, seeing that it wasn't working and following your recommendations, I reformatted it to NTFS, but it doesn't load anything.

I will try the procedure recommended by Thomas.le.

I followed Thomas.be's procedure and it works, I can recover disk space (not the 500 GB but 465 GB).
Thanks to everyone for your advice.

How can I delete the 32 GB partition? I believe that by following Thomas.le's procedure, all partitions are deleted!!! Correct me if I'm wrong.
Why do we never have the theoretical capacity of 500 GB in my case?
It seems to me that when I used this hard drive for the first time, it never displayed 500 GB!!
