Hello,
Hello everyone and first of all, congratulations on this great forum (which has helped me out many times!). I'm posting today because I have a small issue with my brand new Iomega external hard drive. It works very well, but the problem is that it should be 500 gigabytes, yet it only shows 467!!! I would like to know where the missing 33 gigabytes have gone!
This has been the case since the first connection, and I haven't done anything on it except transfer my movies and videos!!
If someone could tell me if there is a way to recover the missing GB, that would be great!!
Thanks in advance @+

Hello everyone!
I have a problem with my Toshiba 500GB external hard drive. The issue is that it is detected by the computer but does not appear (I can feel it starting up and loading: startup noise). The computer indicates its presence in the taskbar with the existence of a mass storage device...but it does not show up in My Computer.
Thank you very much for helping me with my problem. I am eagerly waiting for your responses. -
Hello everyone, I'm really not good with computers and I'm totally cursed when it comes to PCs! I recently bought a 500GB Iomega external hard drive and even though everything seems to be working fine, my PC doesn't recognize it. Yet when I first plugged it in, I was able to transfer files from my PC! Help!!!

Hello everyone, I received a 500GB external hard drive as a Christmas gift. It was working without any issues, I was transferring my files without any problems, until one day when I tried to move a file and it said: "Insufficient disk space" even though I still have 450GB free.......can you tell me what the problem is???? Thank you!

Good evening,
I really need help because I'm about to lose my mind!!
I just bought an IOMEGA PRESTIGE COMPACT 500GB external hard drive and when I connect it to my laptop, the hard drive beeps and doesn't show up on my PC (Windows 7)
Thank you for getting back to me!! -
Hello hello.
I have an Iomega 1TB external hard drive that was working perfectly until a few days ago.
Now it turns on, my computer makes a little sound like "I've plugged something in", but it absolutely does NOT detect it.
The hard drive has its little white light on, but it beeps for about 30 seconds after turning on.
I am DESPERATE, I have my whole life on this thing! Please help me!
(I am on Vista) -
I think it's normal because of the cache.
In fact, mine, which originally has 160 GB, only shows 153 GB in total.
We'll see. -
hello
Hard drive capacity
You bought a new 160 GB drive, you partitioned it, you formatted it. You check its capacity and you realize that your drive is only 149 GB...

Impressive, I have a problem that is probably very rare. I bought a 500 GB hard drive, I installed it on my computer with a more efficient operating system than Windows XP. In fact, it has the icons of Vista, etc., but it’s not Vista. Problems arose when I was playing games, so I decided to revert to Windows XP Professional, and now I find myself with a 160 GB hard drive!!!
I formatted it 2 or 3 times, but no improvement.
If someone hears me, please respond, and Happy New Year. -
Hello!
I bought the IOMEGA Prestige 500 GB hard drive. I just realized (after purchasing online) that it requires 2 very close USB ports to connect it. (Of course, my laptop has 3, but they are all very far apart from each other!)
Is it absolutely necessary to connect both ports, or can I perform my transfers by plugging in just one of the two cables?
Thank you very much! -
Hello,
I also bought a (massive stock clearance hard drive lol) Iomega 500GB.
When I connected it to my Vista PC, it was only recognized in the disk drive. After spending several minutes online, I discovered a solution that WORKS.
You go to control panel and then "COMPUTER MANAGEMENT" then "DISK MANAGEMENT" And there, you will see your poor HDD just sitting there. You just need to initialize it and possibly partition it, and you're good to go. ;)
Talk to you soon!-
Hi,
I tried your solution, my disk was indeed there, uninitialized. But when I tried to initialize it, it told me after a few minutes that the file was not found, then my disk completely disappeared from the list. If I try to initialize it as the primary boot disk: "error, cyclic redundancy."
Any idea? -
Good evening
I come to you a bit late, but I resolved a problem on my own with my Iomega 500GB external hard drive that I thought wasn’t working well until I realized that it wasn’t connecting properly with my USB port
Since I switched to a different USB port, everything is working perfectly
I wanted to share my experience for those who have issues with this external hard drive
Hoping that the problem has been resolved since then
Best regards -

Hello,
It's perfectly normal, the gigabyte standards between Windows and hard drive manufacturers are not the same. I don't know them exactly, but for example, 1 gigabyte for Windows equals 1.2 gigabytes for hard drive manufacturers, so the more storage you buy, the more gigabytes you lose under Windows. -
Well, what's strange according to your figures is that my internal hard drive is 160 GB, partitioned into 2, and I have 152 MB left, according to what the file explorer says (39 and 113), and 153 according to the Windows defragmenter (39 and 114), but certainly more than the figures stated, anyway.

Bonjour, my 500GB Dane-Elec hard drive is now formatted to only 50GB! How did that happen? Thank you!
-
Not only is it normal, but I believe it's even specified on the packaging of hard drives. For example, my 8GB SD card has it written, and I have the same 500GB external hard drive, which obviously shows 465GB, as well as on my internal drive.
-
When building a house of 100 m2, there are walls and partitions. The usable area is therefore less than 100 m2. After formatting, the hard drive is not empty; there is an organization of space and a minimum of redundancy for the stability of the file system. All of this comes at a cost in terms of disk space.

Iomega hard drives have 2 USB ports, plug in only the master port (the first one)
there you go :) -
Hello sir or madam, I am having difficulty saving my first photos to my Iomega 500 hard drive. I would like some help. Thank you in advance.

oh la la... it has absolutely nothing to do with standards or anything...
it simply starts from the fact that 1 Go, for the average person (and supermarkets), is 1000 Mo...
however, we operate in binary, my friends, which means base 2...
make the connection with RAM sticks of 256, 512 and OHHHHHHHHHH 1024 !!!!
1Go = 1024 Mo
so if they sell a 500 Go hard drive, you should expect: 500 / 1024 * 1000....... that is 488 Go and some.....
there you go, friends...
exercise: 2To = 2000 Go or 2048 ????
it's 2048, but manufacturers will only put in 2000, so we will inevitably not have an effective 2To...
see you later -

The current provided by the USB ports of the PC is sometimes insufficient to power the hard drive mechanism. In this case, insert a mini HUB sold with a power supply that is plugged into the 220V. This will provide the missing current to properly operate the hard drive, and the PC will then be able to recognize it. Another solution is to turn to hard drives sold with a power supply.
