Epson WF-2860 Disassembly

The scanner of my printer has become misaligned, hence an error message.
Its age does not warrant having it repaired by a professional.
I can't seem to detach the pivoting part of the scanner.
Can someone help me? (I couldn't find a tutorial on this: surprising!).
An exploded view would help me, but I couldn't find that either...
Thank you

Hello,
If this printer is made like the others...?? the pivoting cover part can be removed from the rest of the printer... there are two hinges at the back, stabilized by some famous springs... you need to go fairly deep with a long screwdriver to unscrew the attachment of these hinges from the body of the printer...
There are also two cables to disconnect... a ribbon cable and a multi-conductor cable, accessible from the left side... you need to remove the USB cover, there's a screw, and then it slides back... and you can see the famous cables to disconnect...
Then you lift the scanner block, which should come vertically with its hinges... a spring will loosen... and you need to be careful not to break the cables that also come vertically.
After that, the scanner block is separated from the rest of the printer... the rest is to be done.
Here is a video on the topic in English, except for the images. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPJEZoqI8M4 -

OK, the one I have isn’t quite the same... here’s a photo, disassembled:
You can see the light carriage at the top and the (white) pulley for the belt redirection..
At the bottom, the motor and reducer part for the translation movement... which is applied in the center while yours is on one side; it doesn’t work under proper traction conditions...
and the second photo shows the back of the light carriage, (the bottom, detached from its redirection pulley)... You can see the toothed belt and its anchoring point (the small square block) as well as a "horn" spring forked into the belt... It serves to keep the belt tight when everything is in place, and it’s not visible.
I suppose your spring might have a function like that, to keep the belt tight.
Is your belt broken...?? or has it lost teeth... or are its fibers relaxed..??
I think there’s a whole little mechanism with motor and ++ if we see the bottom of your light carriage...
If it goes off-kilter, is it because the traction isn’t symmetrical...?? or even absent on one side..??
So here are my observations and my search for another Block..
I can't see the toothed belt very well...
I also don't see why it goes off-kilter.. -
Thank you Jeannets!
I think each printer has its own setups... unfortunately!
I really liked the "except for the images"! That's the kind of humor I appreciate!
Have a great weekend! -

Yes, it's quite true for the details... But for the general principle, the basic design remains... Because the manufacturing chain doesn't change every time a new model comes out, especially the Scan, which has been in the same definition for almost 20 years (1200x2400 dpi), keeping the notion of the lid that folds over the document..
In the video, I recognized the two screws of the hinges at the back and the cables on the left side...
Tell me the rest of the story... For the humor... we need a bit of that these days. -

I think this is the part:

It would be at this address https://www.ebay.fr/itm/175519872626?hash=item28ddccb672%3Ag%3Ay5AAAOSwhA9jjbo%7E#shpCntId
in Aigremont, France...
The spring assembly, in hunting horn, is a bit curious; I wonder if there aren’t two superimposed springs in there.
Note: For lack of another solution, it should be possible to make this spring yourself with "piano wire" of 0.5 mm in diameter (approximately)...

I can't find a link... But the picture of these two parts... I think this spring is centered on an axis, a stud, a shoulder screw...? That the short part is in contact to serve to angularly tension the spring... and the long part is movable and serves to bring a piece back to its resting position...? in contact or in a groove.
I don't see what it is... We also need to consider that it could be partially broken...
Is it on the scanner part or the printer body...?
We would need the catalog with an exploded view.-
Yes, hello, I'm still here..!
I think this triangular piece with its gears is a "Reverse" or a "Rocker" that needs to tilt at the end of the light carriage's stroke.... and causes the direction of movement to reverse, to return to the initial position; either by interposing an intermediate gear in the movement... or by a switch that reverses the rotation direction of the motor...
And this thing doesn't work as it should due to the broken spring.... This spring needs to pivot at the moment of tilting, and stabilizes the assembly to keep the gears engaged, with the pressure of the spring, whether in one direction or the other...
We still need to see how this spring is and where it is attached...
Hi again!... and thank you for taking an interest in my issue.
This scanner doesn't have a belt: the carriage has a motor + a gear that slides on the toothed part at the bottom.
I certainly tried without putting this piece + spring back, but it jams...jeannets Posted messages 28397 Registration date Status Contributor Last intervention Ambassadeur 6 603
OK so at your place, it’s a rack... and a pinion rolling over it... doesn’t it seem to be missing one or more teeth..? I thought I saw that the reducer was a "worm gear"..??
If it crashes, I think the initial defect is still there..? Is there an error code..?
I’ve looked everywhere, but I can’t find anything...
It might be possible to change the whole scanner... maybe check eBay for example.. I’ve already looked but couldn’t find anything..
Do you not see at all where that part was..? it would fit onto the cylinder on the left side of your image, I wouldn’t be surprised... and the spring too, which recalls that triangular piece, towards a resting position and this piece must act on a switch or a tab, in the light carriage.... Is it used for a stop or to turn around..?? for a two-pass scan.. for example.
