Password required for a NAS

Hello,

I have been facing a connection issue with my NAS DS615J for several days. I don't know why or how this happened, but Windows is asking me to log in with a password to access it. So I enter the username and password for the NAS, but Windows 11 doesn't accept it. However, I can connect to my Synology from the assistant without any problem using this password. Or maybe it’s not the NAS password that I should be entering!

I want to point out that DSM is up to date, as well as Windows.

Attached is a screenshot of the window that appears when I click on it.

Hello and welcome to CCM

Is your NAS on 6.x or 7.x?
I don't have Windows 11, but in principle, it shouldn't change anything at this level.
It is possible that W11 adds a layer of security.
Do you get this message when you access the Synology interface directly or when you access a mapping on the NAS?

Best regards
Ps: I modified your image to avoid personal info.

Hello and thank you for the response

DSM is on 6.2.4. I think the recent update of Windows 11 has added an extra layer of security. I can access the Synology NAS from "Synology Assistant" or even by entering the NAS IP without any problem, so the password is correct. However, I can no longer map it because Windows keeps asking for a password that I do not have.

Just to verify, have you tried deleting all the folders, rebooting the PC/computer, and then recreating the folders? Or creating the folders named after the server but using the IP?
Is the NAS on a fixed IP?
Because an IP that works but not a server name can cause issues in the DNS.

I'm not well-versed in networking, but I removed the NAS from the network and then tried to map it using its name and also by searching for it in the "browse" menu, but I'm still being asked for the password. I also restarted the computer. The NAS does not have a fixed IP.

Hi

By the way, W11 doesn’t change anything about access to DS218 that is in DSM 6.xx ... maybe check the SMB settings.

Good evening everyone
I just resolved the issue by going into the "credential manager" and deleting the passwords related to the NAS, and since then I don't have to enter it anymore. I click on the NAS name in the explorer and it opens without asking me for a password.
Thank you all for your responses
Have a good evening

Ah yes, the infamous Windows password manager, it's been giving me trouble at work too, I hadn’t thought of that. Good catch.
That said, setting up the Synology NAS with a fixed IP can be a good idea, generally you can do it on the router (depending on the type of router) or on the NAS.

Hi

Accessing NAS resources without a login and password?
Hello security ... ;-)
Let's hope it's because your Windows account is the same as the NAS account

Hello
Indeed, it was lecrabeinfo who gave me the solution. I can access my NAS by entering a password, but in Windows Explorer, I only have access to the photo folder.
