Wifi TCL

Question

Hello,
I have a TCL TV model 50C725. The 5 GHz wifi is not recognized unless you force the 5GHz channels to a value of 50 or lower. Higher frequencies are not detected by this TV.
TCL finds this normal and has 2 solutions: force the channel in the router, which means it won't be on AUTO. This is not normal, the router should adapt to the TV according to the response from Boulanger and TCL. 2 interventions and nothing more. The wifi card model is outdated. If the channels are on auto, it’s to reduce wifi congestion. The DFS channels, if checked in the router, are not accepted by the TV.
My Samsung TV from 2013 recognizes all the 5GHz wifi frequencies.
With the 2.4 GHz wifi, the speed is lower, and 4K from Netflix, for example, does not work 7 meters from the router.
The 2nd solution, a cable or a powerline adapter, makes me laugh...
A TV from 2021 not compatible!

If anyone has the same thoughts, please post them.

The real solution that ensures the best speed is an Ethernet cable at 1000 mega (without powerline adapters). If you don't want that, it's a different story that doesn't concern the forum.

TCL equipment is not comparable to Samsung... there's no comparison.

The 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is the most common and it reaches further than the 5 GHz... if your speed (which we don't know) is not sufficient, it's because you're too far from the source... as for the 5 GHz, let's not even talk about it; you need to be within 3 meters without a concrete slab... Maybe there are many neighbors broadcasting on Wi-Fi.

As for your box, we don't know which one it is...?? but usually all boxes emit a decent Wi-Fi... you need to choose a channel that isn't too crowded... Obsolete doesn't mean it doesn't work... not everyone changes their Wi-Fi card as soon as a new model comes out... and to state that, you need to give the model.

DFS channels have the disadvantage of occupying too many channels... and in polluted environments overloaded with Wi-Fi, radar, and others, the final result is worse than the simplest... let's just say it works well in the middle of fields. And it automatically disables itself if the result isn't satisfactory. It's not a smooth journey... and for all this, it's better to know your environment and have the technical specifications in numbers to speak with competence.

But my conclusion would be to say install a direct Ethernet cable if you want to break free from these issues and have good results, even with a TCL.

The 2.4 GHz wifi is the most widespread and it has a longer range than 5 GHz... if your speed (which we don't know) is not sufficient, it's because you're too far from the source... as for the 5 GHz, let's not talk about it, you have to be within 3 meters without a concrete slab... Your BOX, we don't know which one it is..?? but usually all BOXes emit decent wifi... you need to choose a channel that is not too crowded... Obsolete does not mean it doesn't work... Not everyone changes their wifi card as soon as a new model comes out... and to say that, you need to give the model

You could find a compromise in the installation to satisfy this type of operation...

It would involve installing an advanced Wifi router, halfway between your FreeBox and your TV.

The idea would be to place this router between the two devices... connected via direct RJ45 Ethernet to your BOX.
From there, it radiates its wifi; which is not dependent on that of your BOX and requires absolutely no modifications... And your TV should find its balance to operate in 4K..

Thank you for your response. Currently, the Freebox serves as my gateway. I have an ASUS RT-AC86U router connected to the Freebox. Bringing it closer requires running a cable, which is very difficult. I chose this router solely to have a LAN independent of Free. Moreover, I can switch operators without having to reconfigure all my devices. My experience with TP-LINK (especially) and Netgear led me to buy ASUS.
Using Wi-Fi from the ASUS allows me to have a significantly higher bandwidth. The Freebox does not reach 7 meters or does so with insufficient speed. I had the Livebox 5 and it was the same.
I advise anyone having issues with Wi-Fi bandwidth to abandon repeaters or powerline adapters. It’s better to buy a good router and place it behind the box. For your information, the ASUS RT-AC86U router allows for replacing the box using credentials, provided you have a fiber to RJ45 converter.
In conclusion, I bought a 4K QLED TV for 600 euros with a Wi-Fi card that requires modifying my Wi-Fi network. That is why I am in the process of repairing or getting a refund for the TV with the seller. Two interventions have taken place, the first from TCL with a motherboard and Wi-Fi card replacement, and it’s still the same, and a second from the seller who couldn't do much. He noted that the 5GHz was not visible, updated via USB stick, still the same.

The goal would be to really understand this side... to set up your TCL TV in harmony with Asus.
Do you have different SSID names..?? between all your wifi variants..?

If you knew the type of chip used for your wifi on the TV, that would be good too...

I separated the 2 networks, so 2 SSIDs, one 2.4 and one 5 GHz.
The channels on 2 GHz range from 1 to 13.
Those on 5 GHz range from 36 to 140 in auto mode.
Channels between 48 and 140 are not accessible from the TCL.
The 5 GHz network is not detected by the TCL (channels above 48).
All other compatible 5 GHz devices can see it.
I've been using Wifi Analyzer for a while. I can see the networks and channels from a PC or a compatible Android device, but not from the TCL, which is understandable.
It's exactly what I'm saying; the TCL card is WIFI N but is not compatible with 5 GHz on DFS channels (above 48).
Obsolete card on TCL. I'm not going to force the 5 GHz channels to "NON DFS" just for this TV. I don't have the chip for the TCL WIFI card.
I have more bandwidth on DFS, and no neighbors are using it. I forgot: all operators' boxes are configured by default to auto channels and DFS.
Personally, I have worked in industrial networking; I wouldn't run an RJ45 near electrical cables.

Yes, well noticed, different SSIDs are good, channel 1 to 13 is normal for the 2.4 band and it uses 20 MHz of width... and it uses multiple channels simultaneously to improve its speed in N... Disadvantage is if one of the channels is occupied, the expected result is not at the appointment.

In 5 GHz, the channels are often 40 or 80 in width, DFS can be enabled or not but the validation is recorded... These channels can be disturbed by weather radars in particular, that's why they are not validated by default.
There are channels 149 to 165 which are quite sufficient to operate TV
Obsolete Wi-Fi in a TV, what does that mean..?? A Wi-Fi card that worked in 2015 still works today, just like in the past...
I don't quite understand where your problem is either since you say you have working channels... and you insist on using others that do not work with your TV..?? Are you stabbing yourself just to see if it hurts..?

-- Certainly, it's not the most Catholic or Orthodox, but the Ethernet cables are shielded and the frequencies are well separated from each other... I don't think there is much risk.. in industry it's different, first by regulations and then by technique, the currents that flow are higher, so the magnetic inductions are too... I'm still surprised, I've browsed the web and users don't seem to have any trouble connecting with this TV... But then again, it could be that yours has a specific defect..

We can also say that it's still under warranty..
