Hello everyone,
The SFR messaging service is not the one I use, but I have no issues sending/receiving messages when I need to.
That's not the case with Outlook, which shows me this

and refuses the password I enter.
Is it a specific password or the SFR messaging password? I get so many rejections that I wonder which password it is!
I have the same issues when using Thunderbird!

Hello

The password for Outlook is the one for the target email account (to access it, for example, via a browser).
If it does not work in Thunderbird, that confirms that it is not correct.
I don't understand "The SFR email is not the one I use"??? If it's not your email, why do you want to connect to it?

Thank you in advance for your interest in the issue.
I am subscribed to SFR, and the messaging service offered by this ISP does not interest me.
I mainly use Outlook and occasionally Thunderbird.
When using these two email clients, I get a message confirming what I mentioned in my initial question.
The target password, as you mentioned, is not recognized when I enter it!

Ok, we're mixing messaging and a "client" or messaging program. :-)
Outlook or Thunderbird is therefore the client and connects to the messaging service.

The message you have is the same on both sides, issue with THIS user and/or password.
So there is a problem with one or the other.
For the password, it's easy to check; just log in to the SFR webmail online with a browser and validate that password. If there are no issues, then the username is problematic.
I don't know SFR, sometimes it's a specific identifier for them, sometimes the email address.

Regarding the username and password for accessing the messaging service, it's about my email address and the designated password for me to log in.
From the SFR website, I logged out and logged back in with my "normal" credentials and everything works fine.
When you say "

Hello,

For the past few days (it's not an IMAP issue but that doesn't change anything), I've been experiencing random outages in receiving SFR emails in my software; I'm not receiving anything even though there are new emails (smartphone and/or webmail notifications), and the connection log reports "invalid identifier."

Then it suddenly starts working again without me doing anything: there is therefore a bug not with my settings, but with the SFR servers.

Hello Brucine,
When I use the SFR messaging service (which I don't like!), there are no problems; both sending and receiving emails work perfectly.
I haven't checked, but it's possible that the SFR messaging has SMTP and POP settings configured on my end, and that's why it works!

Yes, me too, that’s what I was saying: I have no issues sending or receiving from the webmail or the Android app (and I also hate both), but I didn't say, on the contrary, that it was working in IMAP rather than POP: random failure from the mail software in POP, but it is possible that the failure is widespread and in any case IMAP changes the dedicated ports, not the identification.

I have no problem receiving on an old Orange address (non-secure POP and not the same server) and just tried for SFR, the fly has changed donkeys, the message is no longer "-ERR Invalid login or password" but "-ERR internal server error."

I had the same failure for a few hours a few days ago that resolved itself, so I still believe that it’s the SFR server that is at fault and that there’s nothing else to do for now but wait.

For your information, the Holy Spirit has intervened and this morning, the SFR server has been resurrected: let’s see if it works now.
