Question

Hello,
I have a small problem with my printer, it always goes offline when I start Windows. To print, I have to check "use printer online" and restart Windows (if I don't restart, it can't print). My question is how do you set the printer to 'ready' automatically when Windows starts?

Hello,

Indeed, this problem comes from Vista, among other things.
You need to disable the SNMP status in the TCP/IP port configuration of the printer and that will solve it.
As for printers connected via USB, I'm not sure about that.

To please the previous interlocutor, I would like to specify that I have the same problem. (And that reinstalling the printer is ineffective)

I have a network printer on my Freebox.

On a laptop with Vista, the "use printer offline" checkbox is checked every time I start up; I think it's related to the fact that the network printer is not detected during startup.
Regarding the printer issue, has anyone experienced this network printer problem with the Freebox? (I had to do a lot of resets to try to solve an insufficient bandwidth issue)

Excuse my ignorance, but where can I find this SNMP parameter?

My issue is that the network printers work perfectly as long as I leave the laptop on. As soon as I close it and restart, the printers go offline and I cannot reconnect them. The only solution so far has been to uninstall and reinstall, and everything works again as long as I keep the laptop on. It resembles what was described above.

Hey! I have the same problem as Marie, and it just happened; it was working perfectly for a year. The part of the network that interests us consists of a Livebox router-modem, connected to the HP C7200 printer by a 5-meter unshielded straight RJ45 cable.

I had the same problem on XP, with an HP 3210. After going around in circles (rebooting, restoring, etc...) I turned off the printer for a minute, letting its internal memory discharge, then I turned it back on and everything returned to normal. Hoping this can help someone..

For an Offline Printer ...

especially on HP ... in the printer settings, disable SNMP status
right-click on the printer... properties, port tab: click on "configure port" and uncheck "Enable SNMP status"

You say this, but when I click to configure the port, it says: "An error occurred while configuring the port. Operation not supported."

I had the same problem with my HP LaserJet 2100. For those interested, I managed to figure out after an hour that this issue was due to one of the USB ports (I have a USB>Parallel cable) on my CPU. This port does not recognize my printer while it recognizes all other types of connected devices... I'm not going to dig deeper into it since my printer works on another port! There you go, good luck...

Super big hassle!

I had the same problem as you! Everything was working perfectly and then BAM I had 28 documents waiting that I hadn't saved which wouldn't print, so frustrating...

Anyway, thanks to you I'm printing now!

For those who are stuck on the port configuration part to turn off SNMP because they get an error message like "action impossible" or something like that.

Well, it's because it's set up incorrectly!

You will need to create your own port! So you create a port. It will ask you for the IP address of your printer (if you don't know it, just do "ping PRINTER_NAME" in a Windows command prompt. You can find the printer name in your network favorites. Otherwise, depending on the drivers, you’ll find the IP address by right-clicking and looking at properties as well, haha.

So enter that IP address! It searches for 5 minutes and if all goes well, it finds your printer and prompts you to validate. You validate! Then you configure this new port and uncheck the infamous SNMP! Then save it and your printer will go back to connected mode within a minute. There you go, I hope to provide an answer to everyone who was stuck like I was! And thanks to those who helped me avoid retyping all my documents from the spooler!
