Good evening to you!
I would like to mention my problem: my Acer Aspire E5-511P (laptop) has a touchpad and built-in mouse that started acting up a few days ago. It all began with the mouse moving on its own to the upper left side of the screen, and then this past Friday, as I was going crazy, I pressed the F7 key which disabled the keyboard and made my cursor disappear.
Upon restarting my system, which had just installed updates for Windows 10, I noticed with horror in the Device Manager that the "Mouse and other pointing devices" tab had literally vanished! Only the on-screen keyboard works, which is convenient for me.
However, I would really like to get my cursor back. It must be there, somewhere!
Thank you for your help in advance, have a good evening!

Hi,
Try installing the drivers with Touslesdrivers: My drivers
https://fichiers2.touslesdrivers.com/Mes_Drivers_3.0.4.exe -
Good evening,
First of all, thank you for your prompt response. I tried to install the file you sent me from the link, but instead, I received an error message stating that "the system resources are insufficient to complete the requested service."
Very strange... do you have another solution, please? -
DriversCloud installation 64 or 32 bit
https://www.driverscloud.com/fr/demarrer
64 bit https://www.driverscloud.com/plugins/DriversCloudx64_11_0_3_0.zip
32 bit https://www.driverscloud.com/plugins/DriversCloud_11_0_3_0.zip
Then at the bottom Find the drivers -
Very well, I’ve been able to install DriversCloud 64 bit. What should I do now (I feel a bit lost in all of this...)?
-
The yellow button, or gold, or somewhere in between.
-
OK, I have a complete summary of my laptop here.
What should I do next? Press "Find Drivers" to start the search, right? -
Yes, find the drivers.
You will see a list.
There is an option to install everything automatically, but if you have the choice, don't use that.
Download them, extract them, and install them... -
So, they tell me that there is a "semi-automatic installation" in the recommended method, with the whole list of drivers. Indeed. There is also a manual installation, but not for the driver I want (there are only the options "Motherboard", "Graphics Card" and "PCI Card").

Motherboard and PCI can help, some things are linked.
Although I'm not sure, it shouldn't hurt.
I'm redirecting your topic to the Hardware / Drivers section
If I can't help you further, maybe someone else can. -

PS: since your PC is a laptop, plug it into the mains
if you remember the exact date, perform a system restore using a restore point from a date before your issues
in search, type RSTRUI.EXE and click on Open
follow the prompts for system restore
PS: hi Fabul

except that the date is unfortunately not indicated for a system restore.
that's not normal, for example:
when the system restore opens, you check this box
and in the next one, this one
tell me what that gives
PS: since you did a reset of W10 without data loss, the problem remained
if you have any questions...

re
That's exactly what I did, but that box in the second photo isn't showing up. Here's what I have:
it's normal, you already have all the existing restore points displayed...
if you have any questions...

Sheesh, it's really frustrating. I should still be able to download the driver to reinstall it, it must be somewhere!
Post a screenshot of your device manager --> click here
See you later

re
in the device manager, click on View in the menu bar at the top --> Show hidden devices
post 1 or 2 new screenshots, so that everything is displayed
PS: you have 1 device with a yellow alert /!\

Yes, I saw about the Intel(R) Trusted Execution Engine Interface—I'm taking care of that too.
However, after these few hours of silence where I was struggling to find a compatible driver, I finally found one and was able to install it.
BUT—because there’s always a fucking "but"—it's impossible for me to use the mouse even though the properties say that this device is working properly. It's hard to make sense of…

is it an external mouse for the PC?

Nope, it's a built-in mouse with a wheel.
Your PC is a laptop, so it's either a wireless mouse or one that's plugged in via USB.
See you later!

It’s a wireless mouse, no need to connect one via a USB port.
You need to connect the dongle of your wireless mouse to a USB port for it to work.

it's not impossible for the driver, check with Driverscloud --> click here
after installation, click on "my drivers"
post the URL of the driver search page

Hello
I made a mistake! It's not a scroll mouse, it's a trackpad—sorry, it's my error!
Okay, but is your problem solved or not?
See you

BILLMAXIME!!!
I found the solution and fixed my touchpad problem! Let me explain it to you in detail!
So, I had the idea to look at previous discussions from people with the same problem as mine on Acer laptops with the same model as mine. I ended up finding a few with the same model—Acer Aspire E5-511P-C7HW, literally THE SAME COMPUTER AS MINE!
I followed the discussion thread and the various options suggested by the replies to the problem, and one struck me: updating my BIOS. One of the replies provided a link for the BIOS update. My own BIOS had an older version that hadn’t been updated, if I understand correctly—it was version 1.03, I believe? Then, I updated it to version 1.08, but that didn’t work either. Anyway, the new version suggested was 1.10.
I downloaded this version, ran it as an administrator, kept my laptop plugged in (I read that if I unplugged it while the BIOS was updating, it would be fatal…) while the BIOS was updating. Then, after it restarted, I tried Fn+F7… and what do I see?! My touchpad is working again and the cursor is visible!
Problem solved!
(Now, I just need to reinstall my Bluetooth…)
