"Repair" connection at every startup.

Hello,

my problem is both very simple and quite complicated:
I have a computer with Windows XP and a Livebox, connected via Wi-Fi through a Netgear key.
When I turn on my computer, the wireless connection icon and the one for my Wi-Fi key seem to work properly, apart from the fact that the connection icon hasn't "searched" for the connection (you know, the little yellow ball that moves from right to left...), and that at startup it immediately displayed "green" (you know what I mean? ... the little screen was green inside...) then it stopped being so (while normally when we're connected, it blinks green...) anyway. It shows that it's connected to my Livebox with "signal strength: excellent"; so far, no problem. EXCEPT THAT it’s false... it is not connected. Who knows why... which means that every time the computer starts we have to click on "repair [the wireless network connection]; after that, when the repair is done, the Wi-Fi key restarts, asks us to check something in its configuration (basically, to let it configure itself or to let Windows manage it: in the past, we couldn't connect at all because it managed itself with its own program; now we let Windows manage it). Then, the repair ends something like this: "the repair is impossible because this operation could not be completed: clearing the ARP cache" ... and yet ... it works now.

This little manipulation is a bit cumbersome, even if it doesn't take much time, I would like to know if you are aware of this problem, and if you know how to solve it. I just solved another issue on my PC thanks to your forum, which is why I'm counting on you.

I thank you in advance for your responses!! :)
thank you!!!

YAY!!!!!!!! Eureka!!!!!!

I found the solution to my problem and at the same time, to the problem of many other frustrated Orange users...
I went to Fnac to complain that their Wi-Fi key wasn't working well on my computer, and the guy told me, "Have you disabled the MAC address (or MAC address)?" .............. --> What's that??
----> Go to the configuration of your livebox (by typing this in your internet address bar: 192.168.1.1)
----> enter your username and password (by default: "admin" for both.)
----> go to the "wireless network" tab
----> at the bottom right it says "MAC address: disable / enable" = click on "disable"
----> hit "apply" ......
and that's it!! You may need to uninstall the software for your Wi-Fi key (I had to do that for my Netgear key and now everything works perfectly). If you have a laptop, it should connect automatically after a few seconds.

One small clarification; you might be wondering if it’s intentional that Orange doesn't inform anyone about this, and that they leave us wondering why on earth it doesn’t work with other Wi-Fi keys... well, in my opinion and in the opinion of the guy who helped me at Fnac, the answer is clear: yes, of course... it suits them that we can say "I don't understand, when it's Orange it works very well but when it's the others, it constantly malfunctions..." what a publicity stunt!!

There you go, thank you Fnac! (even though I had to wait in line for 20 minutes...) If your problem persists, try tweaking a little, for example, recreate a wireless network connection or reinstall the drivers for your key, but normally it should be fine.

There you go, big kisses to all and thanks for your responses; and thanks to this great site
Ovae :)

Hi Ovae! Thanks for your solution, which seems to please quite a few people, but... You guessed it, not me! lol
On my Wanadoo Livebox (an Inventel, I should specify, it might be important...), the "disable MAC address" option is not present...
If you have any inkling of hope for a solution, it would be nice to let me know, because right now... My computer is about to go out the window!
Thanks in advance to the whole team!

Hello,
maybe your Livebox is simply too old. How long have you been subscribed? If you get in touch with Orange - it's better to go directly to an Orange store rather than calling, the wait can sometimes be long but the service is better - and if you inform them that this option is not available on your Livebox's configuration, they might suggest ordering another one for you - unless they tell you that the issue doesn't come from there. I advise you to thoroughly check everywhere in the Livebox settings before going, as this function might be available but in a different place, since your Livebox is a different model. I remind you that the option to check might be called Mac Address or Adresse Mac.
There you go, that's the only thing I can do for you, I hope you find a solution to your problem.
Best regards,
Ovae.

Hello
I also have the same connectivity issue and I'm like FREDDYLOVE, I don't have the MAC address. There is wireless, network, but no wireless network; that's where I think the problem lies. How can I find the wireless network? It must be somewhere. By the way, I am writing from another computer.
Thank you for your help, Monique

Hi, is the filtering option enabled by default in the control panel, or did you check it by mistake beforehand?

still no solution to my problem ... but a "similar case" that gives me some guidance: I installed the internet at my father's this weekend, and we had two Wi-Fi keys, one orange and one ... not orange (I don’t remember the brand) to equip two computers (via an Orange Livebox, just like at my place).
Well, it was impossible to get the connection to work with the non-orange Wi-Fi key, because the computers recognized it not as a Wi-Fi key but as a regular USB key..... however, there was no problem with the orange key. This means that my father can only connect one computer to the internet at a time ... I advised him to return the other Wi-Fi key and ask to exchange it for an orange one. And I remembered that we had the same issue with our Netgear key and that we managed to bypass this problem by fiddling with the options of the key itself, thanks to its own management program, and that’s where we access the internet by clicking "repair" each time. I also add that my little brother's PC, which has built-in Wi-Fi, also cannot connect to my father's Livebox, but connects just fine with the orange key. Could it be that Orange is deliberately making it difficult to be compatible with Wi-Fi keys that are not Orange ........ ?
I need as much feedback as possible on this ... if this is confirmed I will change my key and go complain to Orange.
Thank you

Ovae

Hello,

No reply but a similar problem...

It does the same thing at startup (network connected, signal strength very good, etc...) except that it is not connected.
After having it repaired, it works, except that the repair gets stuck at the point of reading the network address. So I cancel it and the icon in the taskbar remains on "reading the network address" for 10 minutes to several hours. However, the connection works, I have the internet and the other computers on the network are accessible.
I have a laptop with an integrated wifi card and a belkin54g modem, so I don't think that's where the problem lies since for you it's different...
So it's a configuration issue.
Yes, but what now?

Thank you for your reply, it’s still helpful since I’m learning that someone else is in the same situation and that my Wi-Fi key doesn’t seem to be the issue. Unfortunately, no one seems to have an answer to our problem…
let's wait a little longer :(

Hello "grandma",
if you are writing to us, it means you are connected. Your computer may have a bug and thinks it is not connected, but it is. This happens sometimes (it happened to me in the past). The yellow ball that moves back and forth on the connection icon (which represents a small computer) is normal. It means your computer is searching for the connection! This yellow ball is not supposed to stay for long; it stops searching after a while. What displays then is:
- either a red cross on the internet connection icon (still the gray little computer), which means the connection has failed (but as I said before, the computer "makes mistakes" sometimes: the connection would be established, but the computer may not have detected it yet, which would explain why you can go online while your computer claims it is not connected).
- or the connection icon (gray computer) flashes green on its screen, or even does nothing special, but has neither a yellow ball nor a red cross: this means you are connected.
Anyway, if you manage to come talk to us, it means you are connected. So, there's no reason to panic. And don't worry about the "yellow ball," which means "searching for connection": it's normal, rather the opposite would be a problem...
Best regards,
Ovae

Hello everyone, so here's the thing, I have a little problem that is unfortunately starting to annoy me a bit. The icon of the two little computers has a cross on it and I don't know how to get it back to the way it was before, so my internet connection is not great and I think the issue is indeed that icon.

Thank you for helping me out a bit.

Hello everyone!

I had the exact same problem as Ovae on Win XP with the Freebox.
I managed to fix it with this:

I’d like to share a little tip to permanently repair/reset your TCP/IP settings!
It worked for me. No more need to click "repair" at every startup!!!

So I used a "netsh" command: you click on "start", then "run...", and then you type "cmd".
You will have a black command window: "c:\documents and settings\XXXXX>"
Then you type: "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" and hit "enter" on your keyboard... wait a few seconds...

The command line resets... The registry keys:

- SYSTEM\Current ControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\
- SYSTEM\Current ControlSet\Services\DHCP\Parameters\

have been reset!!! And you restart your computer! And it works!

!!Warning this only applies if your connection works after repairing the connection, so your network/wifi card must function properly!! There you go, I hope this helps, I spent 5 hours on my PC before finding this!!! :(

Good solution... EXCEPT WHEN YOU HAVE A FIXED IP AND YOU HAVE TO RECONFIGURE EVERYTHING THANKS

Well, it's not long to reconfigure...

In Wireless Connection Properties / Wireless Network Configuration
select from the list of preferred networks the one that corresponds to your network
click Properties and go to Authentication:
leave the box "Enable IEEE 802.11x authentication for this network" blank
There you go, in my case, the network connection light is now fine.

Hello
here is the solution for me on XP
Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, Standard (for better visibility)
Wireless Configuration (click on the line to open) set to Automatic and Service Status Started
then Apply OK

or Start > Run > cmd > type: regedit and OK
go to HKEYlocal Machine > system > currentControlSet > services > Ndisuio
in this key there is an entry named (start) double click on it, this entry should be 3 for the
NDIS I/O protocol to start correctly
then restart your PC and everything should be back in order
I hope this will be your solution
and the little computer will come back down
