Hello,

It has been almost a month since my PC has not detected any peripherals. It happened overnight; when I turned it on, my screens displayed "no signal." For a few days after that, it magically started working properly again, and then it went back to not working, and now there's nothing I can do. I tried a few techniques I found online, like unplugging and replugging, but without success.

However, it does turn on; it seems to be functioning normally (the LEDs light up, the fans are running, etc.), but it no longer detects the screens or anything else (I notice that depending on the USB port I use, the LEDs on my keyboard light up, but it doesn't respond to the shift keys, for example; my mouse lights up but only for a few seconds, and the same goes for my headset).

I'm a bit out of ideas; I would like to change the faulty part(s), but I can't seem to figure out which one is malfunctioning... does anyone have an idea, please? Thank you in advance!

To attempt to enter the BIOS:
Is there anything that appears on the screen as soon as you turn on the PC? Or is the screen completely black?
If so, like a " _ " that blinks or a small text that appears, it means the graphics card is transmitting a signal.
To enter the BIOS, press the DEL key for MSI motherboards (though it can also be F2 sometimes) repeatedly as soon as you turn on the PC.

Other avenues to explore:
1) Try using another HDMI (or DVI) cable; I don't know how it's connected to the screen. It may be that the cable is faulty or has become slightly disconnected.
2) Consider cleaning the PC (note: if you've never done it before, take the tower to a professional/someone knowledgeable):
- Disconnect all cables from the tower, discharge the capacitors (after unplugging the power cable, press the power button several times).
- Dismantle the tower and remove the components (graphics card, hard drives, CPU cooler, RAM…) to clean everything of dust.
- Reassemble and reconnect everything.
Indeed, accumulated dust and dirt can cause a bad connection.
3) Test with another graphics card.

The first thing to do (when asking for help) is to provide:

1) the precise brand and model of the device

2) the version of the operating system (Windows, I suppose)

Indeed, depending on whether it is a desktop or a laptop, the possibilities are different.

In particular, "no signal" means that the video signal is not reaching the monitor. This could be a graphics card issue (which can be changed on a desktop).

In any case, this is the first problem to determine because if it is just the screen on a laptop, it can be checked by connecting the PC to an external monitor or a TV (if the ports match).

So a number of pieces of information are missing for someone to make a diagnosis. But without display, it will be difficult for you to perform other tests (hard drive or other peripherals).

Sorry for the lack of info, I'm not very good with all this, but it's a desktop PC with Windows 10 that contains:
Gigabyte Geforce GTX 750 ti graphics card
AMD FX-6300 black edition processor (3.5 GHz)
MSI 970a-g43 motherboard
Cooler Master G550M 550W power supply
2x8GB of RAM

If it's a graphics card issue, I admit I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with prices at the moment... but how can I be sure?

If I understand correctly, it's a non-branded PC, which you may have had assembled in-store.
In the specifications of the motherboard, I don’t see an integrated graphics card, which would allow for video output other than through the Gigabyte Geforce GTX 750 ti graphics card (which may itself have a problem) that provides the performance, especially for gaming.

I'm not a hardware specialist, so other readers will likely be able to clarify this.

Being able to use the integrated graphics card (if it exists) would allow for displaying messages and browsing your configuration and the internet, even in a degraded state.

For now, we can only assume a malfunction in the graphics part (loose connection, card needs to be reseated, defective cable).

However, if you only have basic knowledge, repairing a PC involves tests and disassembly that are difficult to manage through messaging.

It’s not as simple as saying: "just do this and it’ll be resolved," just to avoid consulting an experienced technician.

My advice would be to take the central unit to a store where they would quickly connect the machine to a monitor and tell you whether it’s a graphics card issue without charging you anything.

But other contributors may want to guide you through the whole process.

Indeed, this motherboard does not have an output for a screen... so the display must go through a graphics card without exception...

That said, the screen should be working since it displays "No signal"...
But Windows might not be working as a result...

You should try to enter the BIOS to see what works (or not) by quickly pressing the "Delete" key right after powering on and before the end of the logo...
Check if the hard drive is recognized, for example..? this display can work outside of Windows. You need to try.

The Caps Lock key not changing the state of the indicator light... That's not good..

Hello, thank you all for your answers.

I tried following your advice to tap the delete key but it didn't work, and unfortunately without a screen I can't do "windows + R".
I'm increasingly considering taking it to a professional, but I find it hard to imagine transporting the tower.
Does anyone have one last solution to suggest? :(

Hi

you can try discharging the capacitors.
unplug the power cord and press the power button for 30 seconds, nothing will happen, apparently.
plug the power cord back in and test.

Have you tried resetting the BIOS?
Using the jumper on the motherboard, see the manual.

Even change the CMOS battery... on the motherboard...

Otherwise, you'll have to disassemble everything and start from scratch... that means unplugging the drives and CD, removing the graphics card, etc....
Only the motherboard should remain, connected to its power supply and the keyboard... One stick of memory and connected to the case for the power button...

And you power it on while watching the keyboard indicators; they light up and then turn off... the fans spin... and if you press the shift key (with the lock), the indicator should change state each time.... the keyboard must be wired.

That's what should be happening at this level.... If you have multiple RAM sticks, you can change it (PC turned off) then repeat the process... and come back here to report how it goes.

Hello, after a very long absence (I no longer had a PC), I’m just coming back to clarify the diagnosis, in case it might be useful to someone who stumbles upon this.
I had to take my PC to a technician who informed me that the problem was with the motherboard.
Additionally, the other components were too old, and I ended up replacing the entire machine.
