Hello,
I have been with Bouygues since June 2016, following recurring customer service issues with SFR.
At first, I had some problems with my secondary address on bbox. But after that, my emails were being sent correctly and I was receiving external ones.
My setup is Windows 10 Pro, I use Firefox with Adblock as a ad blocker, as well as several open-source software. My outgoing server is SMTP - previously I had a POP address, and based on the recommendations from Bouygues advisors, I switched to SMTP.
Since December 2019, I have been experiencing regular refusals from bbox to send emails, whether to a single person or a list of addresses. The reason seems to be: Spam
But if I use my Bouygues account, I have no issues.
Through Thunderbird, it is therefore impossible with the error message:
An error occurred while sending the email: the mail server sent an incorrect greeting message: 5. 7. 1: <unknown [176,161,xxx,xxx]: Client host rejected; Access denied.
The Bouygues customer service specialist claims that I don’t know how to configure my account and that I should consult a professional IT technician. The little know-it-all doesn't realize that I began working with computers in 1966 and have always had personal computers since 1980, starting with Apple IIs.
I am therefore reaching out to you for explanations, advice, basically your help.
I thank in advance all those who will take the time to look into my problem.
Configuration: Windows / Firefox 88.0

Hello @Louly83,
There is no incompatibility between Thunderbird and Bouygues, which is an ISP like any other, and a Bouygues account can be set up just like any other account from any ISP. It even finds the settings automatically when setting up the account.
If there's a problem, show this configuration.
P.S: "Previously I had a POP address, and on the recommendations of the advisors at Bouygues, I switched to SMTP
You might mean "I switched to IMAP"?
SMTP is an OUTGOING server protocol while POP is an INCOMING server protocol! -
Hello,
Thank you for reacting so quickly.
Yes, it was a slip of the pen.. it is indeed IMAP. -
@Louly83,
OK. IMAP, so it's the protocol that synchronizes all folders between the server and the client software.
Convenient, but dangerous! The advice to switch from POP to IMAP is not necessarily wise because if messages are deleted from the server for any reason (hacking, malicious intent, human error), due to synchronization, they are also deleted from all devices using IMAP.
Data security therefore requires regularly moving important data to non-synchronized folders under Local Folders and making frequent backups.
It is often recommended, in the main software, to have two definitions of the same account (under two different names), one in POP and the other in IMAP.
The POP account ensures security because received messages cannot be altered by a change on the server. -
Hello @Louly83,
Regarding your initial request, "Client host rejected; Access denied" means that your sending was not authorized by the outgoing server.
Make sure that your outgoing server is properly configured to use authenticated (or secure) mode (Port=465, SSL) and that what is mentioned in the "Username" area is a complete and functional email address.
The pain in the neck who doesn't know that you started computing in 1966 might be right!

Hello,
And thank you for all these tips and the corrections of spelling mistakes.
At over 88 years old, it happens sometimes.
I'm not sure the spoiled brat was right.
I received a text message yesterday posted on 27/04 at 11:12 saying:
End of your Bbox incident.
Your reference SAV-xDSL0006190xxx; the handling of your incident is complete
It seems that I am the one who is right.
My emails can finally be sent again.
Thank you for your help and your valuable advice.
