Messages disappearing with Mozilla Thunderbird Solved

Question

Hi

I am using Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0 on Windows 2000, and for a while now the messages in my inbox disappear by themselves.
Once I open the email client, I check them, I close it, I reopen it and the inbox is empty.
Does anyone have this kind of problem?
I haven't found anything reported except on Framasoft where other users confirm the same issue.

6 months of missing emails! But easily found The method: Right-click on the Inbox folder: in general information: "rebuild the index", wait a few minutes, and it's sorted Best regards

Have you properly configured Mozilla Thunderbird (you probably left the default option)  Go to the tab corresponding to messaging and modify all the settings. Select copy email before sending.

The problem is not sending but receiving messages,
I have a Free account and Yahoo which have no issues and the one at work which is Oleane.
All are well configured and it only happens with Oleane which is also configured as well as the others.
I don't understand, it worked very well with all the previous versions. That's why I'm asking the question!

Hello everyone,
I would like to bring up this topic because I'm having a similar problem on a workstation.
The user has Thunderbird 1.5.0.9 (before 1.5.0.8, but I updated it just in case it was a bug that might have been resolved).
He can receive and send emails perfectly fine, but something strange is happening with a perfectly normal email from a completely normal correspondent to summarize the facts and different tests:
- Initially, the person received a regular message in the inbox, read it, then closed Thunderbird, and when he reopened it to reply, that email had disappeared.

- I searched manually in the folder and indeed, there was no trace of that message. I then used the search function and it found it... in the inbox! (even though it is still missing/invisible when you look at that folder).
- If you double-click to open it in the search results, it appears as if it's empty
- I categorized it to send it to the trash, then categorized it again to return it to the inbox, and there it reappeared, and if you open it in the inbox, you can read it perfectly, etc. But.. as soon as you switch folders or close Thunderbird, it disappears again, and so on.. You can make it reappear by categorizing in search as described, but it disappears again every time.... Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this problem?

It is actually a problem with the inbox.msf file. This file is the index of messages in the inbox folder (message summary file). The inbox.mbox file is intact and contains the messages (hence the correct total number of messages at the bottom), but the index is corrupted.
These two files are located at documents and settings/xxxxx/application data/Thunderbird/Profiles/xxxxxxx.default/mail/local folders/

To fix it, there are two solutions:
1. The brutal method: delete it and relaunch Thunderbird. It will then rebuild the index (which can take some time if there are many messages).
2. The clean method:
- Backup the entire Profiles folder
- Run thunderbird -profilemanager in the run window
- Delete the current profile
- Create a new profile
- Launch Thunderbird
- Fill in the parameters for a new account (name, address, servers)
- Close Thunderbird
- Copy the backed-up files except for inbox.msf
- Relaunch Thunderbird and wait for the index to be created

That should work!

Hello,
I have been using Mozilla for my email for a long time, and curiously, without any manipulation, the titles of my various mail folders have changed.
For example, instead of "administratif," I found a code made up of letters and numbers: zc2gn2.
When I tried to rename it back to the original name, all the subfolders were deleted. Even after searching, nothing appears?
How is this possible? Can I recover these hidden messages, but I don’t think they are lost for good?

hello, same problem, and my solution was to: go to the properties of the incoming mail (ctrl click on it) click on "rebuild index" And there you go, everything is back to normal!! Bat Dim

I confirm the message loss recovery solution for Thunderbird/XP-sp3:
- right-click on "inbox"
- click on "properties"
- tab "general information"
- click on "repair folder"
...wait...everything will be restored.
Provided that you haven’t deleted the Temp/Mozillamailnews folder beforehand.
