Slight Hum from Speaker/Turntable Solved

Question

Hello everyone. I have a small problem with my turntable. Indeed, I hear a slight (but annoying) humming that intensifies as I increase the volume. Fortunately, when the vinyl is playing and I hear the music, I no longer notice the humming. Despite this, I believe the problem should not exist.  I tested with the CD player, and there is no problem at all. No humming or noise.  I moved the furniture as well as the turntable and the amplifier last weekend, and that's since that day that the problem has existed. Yet I reconnected everything as it was before moving the furniture/amplifier/turntable. Hello,   I moved the furniture as well as the turntable and the amplifier last weekend  It's possible that in this new spot the turntable is not perfectly stable.  Check with a level  -- This is a public community. To protect your privacy, do not post any personal information, such as your email address, phone number, or credit card....

Hi  This often comes from the equipotential grounding between the turntable and the amplifier  This seems correct except for the cable (speaker) that runs between the ground and the phono input on the amplifier  Try moving this cable  It could also be due to a poor (or lack of) ground connection on the power supply outlet

jag: "A parasitic sound from the stylus?"  I've just noticed that even when the turntable isn't plugged in, touching the tip of the stylus/stylus makes a "sound" come out of the speakers!!! Amazing, isn't it?

Hello.  This type of buzzing often comes from disturbances produced by the alternating current of a power cable on an unshielded cable. According to your last photo, it seems you have a speaker cable coming out of the amplifier that is in contact with the power cable of the device above. Generally, speaker cables are not shielded. Try to route the power cable as far away as possible from the speaker cables. Best regards.

I have just done several tests following your recommendations. Here’s what I notice: - The hum decreases in volume when I disconnect the GND cable that connects the turntable to the amplifier.  - The hum diminishes when I unplug the turntable from the power outlet.  - Even when the turntable is not powered (not plugged into the power outlet), when I touch the tip of the diamond/stylus, there is a sound. Is this normal in your opinion?

Hello.  You need to proceed by eliminating hypotheses; otherwise, you won't succeed! I agree with Pierrick370 . . . If the sector and the RCA connection cable have been unplugged from the turntable and the amplifier, logically, you should no longer have any buzzing. But if the source selector is in phono position on the amplifier (with the cable still unplugged, mind you) and the buzzing persists, the phono preamplifier likely has a faulty component. Personally, I think it's more likely to be the cable. I haven't seen in the responses if you've swapped the turntable's cable with that of the CD player. Give it a try. If this test is conclusive, we can conclude that the original cable from the turntable is defective (ground cut inside an RCA plug).  See you . . .

Jojolaguitare, I just unplugged the RCA from the turntable to the amplifier and the turntable is not plugged into the power. The amplifier is set to the phono position and there is no humming now.

Hello everyone. First of all, I wanted to thank everyone who responded to my message.  While looking at your helpful messages, I checked online to see where my issue might be coming from. I found on a site that someone had this type of problem and that when they turned up the volume, their amplifier went into 'mute' mode. So I did a test myself by turning up the volume and indeed, my amplifier goes into 'mute' mode.  The problem seemed to come from a speaker cable not being connected properly, from a wire being out of place. So I cut my speaker wires and reconnected them correctly and... no more problem :+)))  I hope I haven't wasted too much of your time and I hope this message can help someone else.  Thanks again.
