Connect a smart TV to an old amplifier

Hello,

I have a Hisense 43AE7200F TV and a very old Technics SA-EX700 amplifier.

On my previous setup, I connected a Jack > RCA (red and white) adapter to the headphone jack at the back of the TV, and then connected it to an input of my amplifier, everything worked perfectly.

Upon receiving the new TV, I tried to do the same thing, but there was no headphone jack, only an "AV IN" port. However, when I connected to it, there was no sound in the amplifier.

I then tried using an SPDIF > RCA adapter, and that worked, but it's not suitable for me because the only way to adjust the volume is by turning the knob on the amplifier, which is not very practical... I would like to be able to control the volume with the TV remote.

I then called Hisense's technical support, and they confirmed the absence of a headphone jack but mentioned the HDMI ARC audio output. I then bought an HDMI to VGA + Jack adapter. Unfortunately, after adjusting the TV for sound output in ARC and making the correct connections: no sound...

I finally tested this adapter on my PC, and there I had sound coming from the Jack socket... So the adapter works!

I’m a bit lost on what my remaining options are or if I made a mistake in a connection/setting... If anyone can help, I would appreciate it! :D

Hello,
To begin with, the HDMI to VGA adapter you purchased will be useless because it's an HDMI output (not an input), which is of no use on a TV that has HDMI inputs. The solution would be to try a sound card on one of your USB ports and then connect the amplifier to that. It remains to be seen if your TV will support it because generally TV manufacturers do not include much support for their USB ports.

No, it doesn't have a VGA input... Only 3 HDMI ports, one AV IN RCA input, and one SPDIF output.

Our friend has already tried a converter:

Yes, unfortunately you have no choice and the optical SPDIF output is a non-amplified line output, sometimes adjustable on certain TVs but you must have looked at it no doubt
As for the ARC function = Audio Return Channel in French "canal de retour audio" but here too it's a line signal

And no :( I'm actually looking to adjust the sound of my amplifier using my TV remote because I've invested in a voice-controllable TV with an Amazon Echo. That's why I chose this TV! If I have to use my box remote to adjust the sound, the voice command feature is pointless... That's why I'm going to such lengths to try to use the TV.
