Solved

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to transfer photos from my Mac to my iPhone without synchronization, as if we were just changing the location of the photos.

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

It is possible to do a one-time and temporary "synchronization".
The method varies depending on the OS version of the Mac.
=> You do not specify anything about the versions concerned (Mac and iPhone)

In older versions (before Catalina), this is done through iTunes, where you check the folder of photos to sync. This folder can very well contain just one photo.

In the latest Mac OS versions (since Catalina), when connected via USB, the iPhone becomes visible in the Finder's sidebar, and from there you can then choose a folder to sync. This will be a one-time sync requested just at that moment.

Another solution is simply to use an application designed for managing iPhone content. Personally, I use IMazing for this.

Very good app.

Hello,

Thank you for your response.

I have the latest versions of both OS (Big Sur and iOS 14.2).

After following the steps, I looked at one of the photos I had synced with my Mac, but I am unable to delete it. Only the share icon appears when I click on the photo.

So the question isn’t about moving a photo from the Mac to the iPhone, but about deleting a photo? Do you want to delete this photo from the Mac or from the iPhone? I assume from the Mac? In that case, why not just move it to the trash from the Finder, without even having the iPhone connected?

It’s likely that I’m not fully understanding the need and what you’re trying to do...

To summarize, I wanted to sort through my photos. So I moved all the photos from my iPhone to an external hard drive. After sorting, I wanted to put the photos back on my iPhone. I imported the photos from the hard drive into my Mac's photo library so that I could then export them to my iPhone via Finder. However, this is not a simple photo transfer. The Mac synchronizes the photos with the iPhone. Once the synchronization was finished, I picked up my iPhone to look at my photos. When I click on a photo, the only option I have is to share it. Therefore, I cannot delete it. The question is whether it was possible to transfer the photos without synchronization, thus keeping the originals on the iPhone and not on the Mac. In summary, I would like to have total control over the photos on my iPhone and remove this synchronization.

Thank you in advance.

OK - I've just done some tests, and indeed it's not easy... but we have to get there this way:

Once all the photos are on the iPhone, we can request from the Mac to stop syncing the folder (we uncheck the sync box), the Mac will then ask if the photos on the iPhone should be deleted or kept on the iPhone. In this case, we choose to keep them. In my attempt, I initially chose to delete them... but it doesn't really work correctly, probably a bug, so I emptied my test folder on the Mac, then asked to sync again with that folder, and there I also got a message asking if I wanted to delete the photos from the iPhone or keep them. I then chose to delete, and this time it worked. I think if I had chosen to keep them, it would have worked as well, and the photos on the iPhone would have become independent.

EDIT: and why not test with the demo version of iMazing?

It's nice to do business.

When you uncheck "Sync..." and choose "Keep" instead of "Delete," the photos remain on the iPhone but you CANNOT delete them.

Keep your software

Hello,

I quote you:

"It’s nice to do sales.

=======

I’m not sure if your rather aggressive message is directed at me, but if so, please know that I am just a volunteer and this is not "my" software. I have no personal interest in it and therefore am not doing sales.

That being said, iMazing does allow you to delete photos from the iPhone, through right-clicking on the photo or after selection and choosing delete:

Examples:

Have a great day.

Best regards.

Hello Francis,

Neither hello nor thank you but rather threatening messages, this is where we have arrived due to the unnecessary and especially unfounded intrusions of temporary visitors.

Thank you for your contribution in a field where there are so few experts capable of helping Mac owners.

Hello Georges,

Thank you ;-)

PS: I'm taking this opportunity to add this Apple support on how to delete a photo on iPhone:

Indeed, it works. Otherwise, I used AirDrop, which also works if you don't necessarily need to keep the dates of the photos.

Thank you for your time.
