Unable to transfer files from Mac to external hard drive Solved

Question

Hello,

I had never encountered any issues with my external hard drive since I bought it over a year ago: I could copy my files to it from my Mac (and vice versa) without any problems.
For the past few days, I have been unable to transfer my files to the hard drive, although I can read the files already present on the HDD. In the settings, it shows "read-only," even though I haven't changed anything (unless the OS update has something to do with it).
With my Mac's memory full and important files on my hard drive, I can't format it... do I have any other solution?

Eureka! I uninstalled Paragon and installed Mounty instead... and it works. I just hope the software is reliable!

Edit: I had taken precautions regarding Mounty... it works.

if it was working well before, but not anymore, there must have been a change somewhere.

In what format is this hard drive? in Mac OS or in NTFS?

Let's assume it's in NTFS, which is a format specific to Windows, if you were able to write on it before and can’t now, it's because you had a utility that allowed you to do so and that is no longer installed on the Mac.

Another possibility, an accidental change in permissions?

What do we see in the information window of the external disk, compared to one of my disks:

Is the Paragon version up to date?

Another potential issue: you should never install more than one NTFS utility at a time.

We should check if any other software intended for that is installed.

Then especially, under OS X 10.11, it's the Paragon NTFS utility that manages these drives, and not Disk Utility anymore. So, you should go to System Preferences, click on the "NTFS for Mac OS X" button, and then see what this utility says. Normally, when selecting the drive, there should be a "Mount" or "Unmount" button.
