Question

Hello, if someone could help me, I have a lot of memories on this computer that I haven't backed up.I have a black screen that says: ERROR: no boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed.What should I do? I can only access the BIOS.I am retired with a small pension and I can't afford to repair my PC.Thank you in advance to the kind soul who could help me out of this problem.

Hello  ERROR: no boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed  The hard drive is not detected or damaged...  Check in the BIOS if the hard drive is set to "first boot"/"1st at startup"  The keys to access the BIOS --> click here   See you  --  The radiation level is higher at the employment center than at Chernobyl.

Hi  the HDD is not detected, you will need to change it  since your PC is a desktop (tower), you can open it on the left side (PC facing you)  you unplug the HDD and put in a new one  you will need to reinstall W10 on the new HDD  if you have any questions...  @+  -- the radiation level is higher at the employment office than at Chernobyl

re  what I did was reverse the 2 hard drives and it's still the same error message  that's normal, since Windows is installed on the damaged hard drive  in the BIOS, check in the different tabs if you see your 2 hard drives  PS: what OS is the PC running (W7/W8.1/W10)?  if it's on W10, what OS was it originally running?  @+  -- the radiation level is higher at the job center than in Chernobyl

Hello, I created the USB key. I tried setting the 1st boot to CD and DVD, and I still get the same error. I tried setting the 1st boot to removable device, but the same problem persists. Then, secure boot is disabled.  Nothing works; I still get the error message.

Personally, I would invest in a new hard drive, on which I would install Windows 10  Then, I would test both hard drives (one after the other and as the second drive/position) in the PC to find out which one is damaged  You can still try to boot from the USB stick by tapping F12 during the PC startup, and selecting Removable Device  If you have any questions... re  1) I don't know why your USB stick doesn't boot when you set it to "First boot/1st on boot" in the BIOS  your PC is running W8.1, thus in UEFI and GPT partition  to create your USB stick, in the Rufus options, you should set it like this:    and not like this:    you need to find out why the PC won't boot from the USB stick  personally, I burnt the image onto a DVD, and it works very well  2) you will still need to buy a new HDD to install W10, because yours is damaged  as you will also need to boot from the USB stick to install W10, you need to find out why the PC doesn't boot from the stick  in one message, you said this:  secure boot set to disabled  you also need to change the Launch CSM (Enable)  let me know what that gives  if you have any questions...  @+  -- the radiation level is higher at the employment office than at Chernobyl

(do I have to replace it with a drive of the same capacity)  I’m not sure if you'll still find 500GB HDDs, it will more likely be 1000GB/1TB  You can also replace your HDD (mechanical) with an SSD (solid state drive) which will give you more speed when starting up the PC  if so, how should I proceed  You need to download a Windows 10 ISO image and put it on a USB stick (like for the Live CD)  BE CAREFUL to take the 64-bit ISO image like that of your PC  on this page, click on download now the tool (MediaCreationTool) --> click here  right click on MediaCreationTool, and choose "run as administrator"  in the steps:  let it handle the preparations  accept the terms of use/license agreement  check the box "create installation media" (USB flash drive, DVD, ISO image)  if you have any questions...  @+
