Hello, if someone could help me, I have a lot of memories on this computer that I haven't backed up.
I have a black screen that says: ERROR: no boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed.
What should I do? I can only access the BIOS.
I am retired with a small pension and I can't afford to repair my PC.
Thank you in advance to the kind soul who could help me out of this problem.

    Hello

ERROR: no boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed

The hard drive is not detected or damaged...

Check in the BIOS if the hard drive is set to "first boot"/"1st at startup"

The keys to access the BIOS --> click here

    See you

    Hi

the HDD is not detected, you will need to change it

since your PC is a desktop (tower), you can open it on the left side (PC facing you)

you unplug the HDD and put in a new one

you will need to reinstall W10 on the new HDD

    if you have any questions...

No, it’s well-deserved, that makes three with yesterday’s.
Just to be clear, I'm not Santa Claus, but I’m still giving out a little bit early.

There are 2 512 MB hard drives; how can I find out which one is defective, hoping I’m not bothering you?
    Thanks in advance.

    re

there are 2 hard drives of 512 MB, how do I find out which one is faulty

it's the one where Windows is installed, because the system doesn't recognize it for booting

do you have 1 hard drive with Windows and another one with the data (photos, documents, etc...)?

what I did was switch the 2 hard drives and still the same error message

    re

what I did was reverse the 2 hard drives and it's still the same error message

that's normal, since Windows is installed on the damaged hard drive

in the BIOS, check in the different tabs if you see your 2 hard drives

PS: what OS is the PC running (W7/W8.1/W10)?

if it's on W10, what OS was it originally running?

Hello, I can't always respond quickly. I'm using a laptop that doesn't belong to me. Thank you for your understanding.
I don't see the hard drives in the BIOS.
The PC is running Windows 10, but it was previously running Windows 8.1.

    hi

no worries about the response time :)

yesterday, I did a test with a CDLive, and we can see the HDDs

you need to download the ISO image and put it on a USB stick or a DVD

let me know what will be easier for you

PS: do you know anyone who has a desktop PC to test your HDDs?

    No desktop PC
Can I download an ISO image from the computer I'm using to talk to you?
If so, Windows 10 or Windows 8.1 to USB because I don't have a DVD burner.

    re

yes, you can download the ISO image from the PC you are communicating with

the download link --> click here

on the page, look for this --> Download the Live CD Malekal

    Here is the download link:
Download the latest version of the Live CD Malekal

it will download via Mega (let the PC work)

when it's done, check how to create the USB stick with Rufus (on the same page)

    if you have any questions...

Hello, I created the USB key. I tried setting the 1st boot to CD and DVD, and I still get the same error. I tried setting the 1st boot to removable device, but the same problem persists.
    Then, secure boot is disabled.

Nothing works; I still get the error message.

    re

    1st boot removable device

it's good for booting from the USB key

did you save the change in the BIOS with F10?

did you make the USB bootable with Rufus?

do you remember the order of the hard drives in your tower before you switched them to test?

did you put them back in the correct order?

      Hello everyone!
Have you ever looked at the PartedMagic Linux ISO that you install with Rufus on a USB stick or a DVD after doing a complete disk scan with the software provided in the GNU/LINUX PartedMagic distribution? Because you can recover your data and see the hard drive through this manipulation ;) :)
