Realtek HD Audio Manager Missing on Windows 10, how to reinstall it? Solved

Hello,

I am reaching out to you because my Realtek HD audio manager is no longer present on my computer.
This issue probably occurred after a Windows update.
Since this possible update, when I plug in my headphones, I can hardly hear anything; I have to turn the volume up to 100%.
So, I can very faintly hear voices.

The Realtek HD audio manager has completely disappeared.
Thus, it is difficult to select the desired sound output
(either through the headphones or the speakers of my laptop).

I deleted a device from the Device Manager (NVIDIA), in the Audio, Video and Game Controllers tab:
--NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM)

After this deletion, no changes occurred.
So I reinstalled the device (NVIDIA).

Still in the Audio, Video and Game Controllers tab:
I uninstalled and then disabled the High Definition Audio Device.
It seems that Windows automatically reinstalled it after this uninstallation.

Then, I clicked on the sound icon at the bottom right of the taskbar and right-clicked.
Four options are presented:
--Open sound settings
--Open volume mixer
--Spatial sound (disabled)
--Troubleshoot sound problems

All options have been used.
Including troubleshoot sound problems and open sound settings.

The sound settings page:
--I clicked on manage audio devices
--Troubleshoot
--The advanced settings have been tested

The result is the same.

The sound control panel was also addressed.
A small "Sound" window opens, displaying the devices:
--Speakers
--Headphones

The headphones (Sennheiser HD 380 Pro) are checked in green in the playback tab, while the speakers are grayed out.
A right-click has already been performed on both the headphones and the speakers.
The other three tabs show:
--Recording, where the microphone is checked in green.
--Sounds, I did nothing in this sound part.
--Communications, "Do nothing" is checked, which seems to be the best option, according to various tutorials on the subject.

To conclude, I used the ergonomic options:
To modify the device volume, but it's still the same.
I wanted to downgrade to Windows 10, but that didn't work.
I also wanted to uninstall an update, but I don't know which one is causing the issue.

I downloaded the RealTek driver thinking it might debug the situation a bit, but still nothing.
The selected file corresponds to the one dedicated to Windows 10, version x64.

Hello,  Happy for version 20h2  Checks  Settings►System►Sound -Main volume slider. -Troubleshoot.   Right-click on the Sound icon in the taskbar then select Sound. Playback tabs Set the Realteck High Definition Audio Speakers as default   Then double-click on Realteck High Definition Audio Speakers. Tab Levels Check for no red cross   Tab Enhancements Uncheck the box ►Disable all sound effects Settings►None   Click on the Realteck Audio Manager icon in the taskbar. I followed your instructions, but unfortunately, the sound remains unchanged.

That said, in my Device Manager the following drivers are missing.
Having obtained the Realtek HD Audio Manager, I hadn’t checked the Device Manager.

In the Device Manager, I therefore don't have these 2 missing drivers:
--Nvidia High Definition Audio
--RealTek High Definition Audio

I relaunched the RealTek Audio 6 setup, thinking that the driver would install but that was not the case.
I will try the procedure again and focus on the 2 missing drivers, to install them in the Device Manager.

Perform a driver detection.
Download -► Mes_Drivers
Check ► Show only drivers newer than those installed
Check ► Show only WHQL certified drivers
Uncheck ► Also show beta drivers
Click on ► Validate

Check if you have a driver to update. (Audio + Graphics card)
Look for the green highlight, it will indicate a new version.
If you have one, download it and install it.
It will uninstall your old driver version to install the new one.

For the audio driver, try ► Connexant Audio 8

Realtek High Definition Audio 6.0.1.8454

If your audio driver is Conexant or Synaptics there are problems with version 20h2.


Errors affecting some devices with Conexant or Synaptics audio drivers
If you have a computer device with Conexant or Synaptics audio drivers, then there is a strong chance that Windows 10, version 20H2, will cause some problems that can become too annoying to live with.
From what we know, people may have a stop error that displays a blue screen. This is mainly due to incompatibility. If you navigate to Sound, Video and Game Controllers in Device Manager, you should see the affected driver named Conexant HDAudio Driver.
As for the driver version, it should be of the type 8.65.47.53, 8.65.56.51, or 8.66.0.0 to 8.66.89.00 for chdrt64.sys or chdrt32.sys.
At this time, Microsoft and Synaptics are working on a fix, which will be available in the next version.
Microsoft recommends not updating your Windows 10 computer until the issue has been resolved.

Errors affecting some devices with Conexant ISST audio drivers
Some users may have a Windows 10 computer system with Conexant ISST audio drivers. If this is the case, be prepared for potential problems during the installation of version 20H2.
The driver name is Conexant ISST Audio or Conexant HDAudio Driver and may be located under Audio, Video and Game Controllers in Device Manager.
From what we understand, the file name is uci64a96.dll via uci64a231.dll, and the version is at 7.231.3.0.
The best option for now is to contact the driver provider, request an update, and make sure not to update your system to Windows 10, version 20H2 until the problem is fixed.

I followed the procedure:
First of all, here is a summary of my configuration:

Then following your response:
1 Perform a driver detection by downloading my drivers.
So some elements were checked, then unchecked, and validated.
When launching "My Drivers," it didn’t work at all.
I just had to disconnect the antivirus.

Several drivers were downloaded, totaling 3. As indicated in the screenshot below. The most recent were downloaded by category (one driver per device).
Realtek High Definition Audio 6.0.1.8454 was installed.

Then having displayed the optional updates, the Realtek audio driver is not present. It is Qualcomm Atheros Communications that has appeared.

You had given me the info about the Conexant or Synaptics driver. It might be possible that the issue comes from the Synaptics driver, as I have a Synaptics driver (see the screenshot below).
"If your driver is Conexant or Synaptics there are issues with version 20h2."

After several modifications, adding this screenshot doesn’t work, nor in the next message.

This is indeed your audio driver for the Asus N751JX that is already installed as ''My drivers'' did not find any newer drivers.

For the other drivers detected by ''My Drivers''

But I think you are using Wifi on your laptop.

This is the pad of your laptop.

For Qualcomm Atheros Communications in optional updates, it's your internet network card driver to install only if the internet doesn't work with the cable; it's a backup to revert to a previous driver, but since you're using Wifi, we'll skip that.

Ps: Each driver has been downloaded and placed at the root of their respective folder.

Have you installed these 3 drivers?
-Intel HD Iris
-Nvidia
-Realtek fast gigabit

Install the Nvidia and Iris driver for your graphics cards if you haven't done it yet (the Intel one is integrated)
Nvidia might be enough.

So we are at the same point.

The headset (Sennheiser HD 380 Pro) is checked in green in the playback tab, while the speakers are grayed out.

Check again if your speakers are set as default.

Thank you for your feedback.
Indeed, the RealTek High Definition Audio driver is installed.
I had downloaded Realtek Audio 6.0.1.8454 but apparently the system
kept the existing driver. Or maybe I installed the driver incorrectly.

The drivers that have been installed are:
- RealTek fast gigabit
- Realtek Audio 6 (the file was executed via the setup)
- Nvidia
- Intel HD Iris

The speakers are set as the default device.

In Device Manager, the procedure was followed.
The Realtek High Definition Audio driver was uninstalled.

Here is a procedure I've been trying since last night, knowing that,
I uninstalled the Realtek High Definition Audio driver but the driver did not uninstall.
So, I checked the box saying to remove the RealTek High Definition Audio driver.

Then I restarted the computer,
- opened Device Manager,
- view ==> show hidden devices ==> the driver is no longer present.

But, since the driver was no longer present,
I couldn't add a driver
without an existing driver that would allow me to right-click to modify it
and therefore find a new driver in the files, notably a downloaded driver in this case.

This means that I had no sound at all!!
Because the Realtek High Definition Audio driver was deleted.

So, I tried to reinstall the driver that was deleted, by forcing Windows
to add the default drivers. So right-click at the bottom right, on the sound icon (little speaker) to troubleshoot sound issues. Windows Update update.
Restart the computer, again the driver was installed.

The Realtek High Definition Audio driver could help me perform
a right-click enabling me to switch between Realtek Audio or Realtek Audio 6.

I deleted the old files that were in the root of the Realtek folder
to start from a clean slate.
Realtek Audio 6 was installed in a folder of that name.
There are 2 folders in the main Realtek folder. It is impossible for me to move the entire Audio folder.

So, back in Device Manager,
right-click on Realtek High Definition Audio,

- Update driver ==> Browse my computer for drivers

- Choose from a list of drivers available on my computer

I unchecked the box
- Show compatible hardware (otherwise the realtek high definition audio driver will be offered)
Choose from the left window among the listed manufacturers, Realtek.
Ultimately, the choice turns out to be the suggested model if the box remains checked by default.
Realtek is selected (the 2019 model was chosen).

To conclude:

Realtek High Definition Audio is still found in Device Manager.
Using the "all drivers" application, I see it is still present.
It may be the Audio sub-folder in the main Realtek folder that needs to be completely deleted to "force" Device Manager to recognize/detect the Realtek Audio 6.0.1.8454 driver.

And click on ►Audio_LEGACY_Realtek_Win10_64_V6088581_driver_only.zip.zip

Install the driver

Does the sound manager open when you plug in the headphones?

Mine is in the hidden icons on the taskbar and opens when the headphones are plugged in

See the options provided.

It is installed at this path ►This PC► Local Disk C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA
It is -►RtkNGUI64

Check by changing the sampling in the speaker options.
24bits for example.

Disable exclusive mode.
Restart the PC

Or try to set the headphones as the default device

Run the Windows Audio Troubleshooter again.

The manager opens properly when I plug in the headset.

The sampling in the speaker options
has been processed. Several samplings have been selected
to observe the best quality.

Exclusive mode has been disabled and the PC has been restarted.
The sound is very muffled, it's not working well.

Run it (connect your headset just in case).
Check the box if there is an update.

For the low sound issue.
Here are some things to try:

- Put the computer into hibernation and then restart it.

- Plug the headset jack halfway in.

- In the audio manager ►advanced device settings► then check►mute sound at the back when plugging a headset in the front.
- And check ►Allow playback of different audio streams simultaneously on front and rear output devices

And increase the volume.

- In the device manager►Sound, video and game controllers
Right-click on Realtek High Definition Audio ► Disable device
Wait 30 seconds to a minute then right-click ► Enable device

There are no updates.

For the issue of low sound,
the headphone jack halfway in, it works.
(I forgot to share this little tip that I use)

The audio manager like the one
shown in the screenshot is nonexistent on my computer.
To my knowledge.

Realtek High Definition Audio was disabled for 5 minutes.
Then re-enabled after restarting the computer.
The sound is still low, changing the sampling rate has been
done without much success.

The disable/enable procedure will be repeated.

This backup trick works.
A] This would mean that the green jack could be obstructed, use a can of compressed air if you have one.

B] I thought about changing the spiral cable.

But it's still precarious! But it's better than nothing!

I blew on the jack port,
and unsurprisingly, nothing happened.
Yes, indeed I need to change the cable.

That said, I have another headset, a Sony mdr-ex15ap
and the sound is similar, very low.

The sound has to be turned up to 100% volume to hear
something very faintly.

Without the headset, the sound is good.
It might be that the next Windows update brings
an improvement in sound quality.

The KB4586853 will be installed in the next Patch Tuesday automatically without any action from your side. Try this:  - click on the sound icon - click on playback device - right-click on all devices and disable them - restart the computer - do the same thing except that you have to enable everything  Disabled   PC restart  Enabled   Reconnect the headset and do a test.  -►If the battery is removable, take it out for 1 minute and then put it back in. Hello Pistouri,  Thank you for your support. The update was triggered manually yesterday (on December 2, 2020). As well as the KB4586876 framework. It was pretty quick, less than 2 minutes.  For the jack port/input, I just blew into it (with my mouth) I don't have a can of compressed air.  There is no cogwheel on the taskbar, no options available.  The protocol of deactivation and then activation was followed. For now, there is no change in the sound.  The headset has been reconnected and tested. The computer is plugged into the wall outlet (the battery doesn't hold at all).  Thank you. Best regards.

Hello,  There is no cogwheel on the taskbar It's in the Realtek sound manager.   Try reinstalling the driver Realtek R2.81 Version R2.82 has a bug that prevents the Realtek HD audio manager from launching. Restart the PC. Plug in the headphones and test.  See you later -- pistouri

1- Download the new version 6.0.1.8036 Click on the blue arrow.  2- Go to your downloads folder. Move it to the desktop. Unzip the archive and run the setup.  3- Alternatively, download this driver Realtek 6.0.8858.1 This is the latest version.  Unzip the archive with 7-zip Right-click on the archive then Extract to -►Audio_LEGACY_Realtek_Win10_64_V6088581_driver_only.zip.zip  Run the setup. This driver had already been downloaded, (we had proceeded this way, but it was certainly uninstalled by the sound troubleshooter tool, Windows updating the sound driver...). Would you happen to have had the headset plugged in when the speaker fell? I'm asking to find out if you might have damaged the jack input of the PC at the same time. Hello Pistouri,  Thank you for your follow-up. When the speaker fell, I was carrying the laptop, I was moving it, the headphones were not plugged in at that moment.  It's strange, the sound is actually normal without the headphones. It's worth mentioning that on YouTube, depending on the music styles (this is to indicate what works fairly well, with a sound volume of 32%): --zen music works --R.N.B has a spatialization effect, you can hear the melody and some lyrics but it’s not satisfying, far from it --classical music works properly, even very properly. --music for working works the same as zen music --the news, the voices, no, that does not work  As soon as voices are present, it doesn’t work. Hello,  Thank you for the audio status report.  For the external sound card, if the splitter doesn't work, get a USB model. This type of External USB Audio Adapter  Checks: Go to Settings ►System Left menu line ►Sound  On the right: Audio output -►Speakers(Realtek High Definition)   Click on the line -►Device properties Disable Spatial Sound if it's enabled.   Go back to the top left. Click on the line -► Manage audio devices Do a test (turn up the volume a bit). - Nvidia (or other depending on what you have). - Speakers   Go to Settings ►Ease of Access Left menu line ►Audio   A+ -- scalpel

Select the sound icon (small speaker) in the taskbar at the bottom right. The sound window opens:   2. Then select/click on the properties button:   3. The speaker properties window opens:   4.
