Connect 2 PCs via Ethernet, one with Wi-Fi card

Hello,

I have 2 computers running Windows 10.
I would like to connect both of them via RJ45 cable to their respective Ethernet cards.
One of the PCs is equipped with a PCI-e WiFi card.

I would like both computers to be able to share files on a local network and, at the same time, share the Internet connection of the computer equipped with the WiFi card with the second computer that lacks Internet access.

I imagine I will need to configure the network through the properties of the different cards, but I haven't been able to do that so far.

If there is already a topic about this, please feel free to send me the link.

In anticipation of your insights on this matter, I wish you a good day.

Hello,
you need to use Windows' ICS connection sharing, by sharing the Wi-Fi connection over the Ethernet local network between the two PCs, the first PC becomes a router.
You can also try a network bridge between the Wi-Fi and Ethernet interfaces, but that's not guaranteed; you need a compatible Wi-Fi card. Furthermore, the local network between the two PCs will be the same as that of the router.
The best option would be to run an Ethernet cable from the router to a switch and connect both PCs to it.

Hello Brupala,

Thank you for your reply, but since the Internet box is not next to the PCs, the goal is not to run cables all over the house.

I might have a router at the back of the garage, I'll try to recover it (if I find it).

As for ICS connection sharing, I was not aware of it. I will look into it.

I will get back to you as soon as I test things out.

If anyone else has an idea, feel free to share. The more options I have, the better chance I have of at least one of them working.

ICS has been around for a long time,
back then the network created was in the 192.168.0.X range which caused problems because many routers had these addresses too (and still do), now the private network created is more in the 192.168.137.X range like for the mobile hotspot.
For the cable, it's not really much of an issue to have it throughout the house, even if it wasn't designed for that, there are not too expensive solutions, like powerline adapters as long as you're not on a fiber connection.
The day you get a fiber connection, you'll be glad you ran a cable to make the most of it.
