Hello, I'm reaching out to you about a rather annoying problem. First of all, I have a Dell laptop equipped with an i7 8750h, GTX 1060 6GB, and 8GB of RAM (a bit light). Two weeks ago, I suddenly experienced a drop in FPS in GTA. After multiple searches on Malekal, among others, I performed several actions, as well as an update of my BIOS, drivers, and software. These actions ended up paying off and the problem disappeared. However, since last night, the issue has returned. I've run various scans with Malwarebytes, Windows Defender, and ESET Online and found nothing. I suspect it might be a component issue, but I'm not an expert, so I prefer to ask for help from experienced users in this area. It's also worth noting that as soon as I plug my laptop into the wall and do a lot of tasks with it, the fans run much louder (I think that's normal, but I wanted to mention it). In-game, after a few hours on demanding games, my GPU reaches 85 degrees. This drop in performance only occurs while gaming; otherwise, everything works fine.
Thank you in advance for the time you've spent reading this.

No need to downgrade, Windows. If you have Windows 10, stay on it; you'll get the latest updates. Clean your PC as much as possible, play with the support for better ventilation, and close the applications you don't need while playing.
Check the graphics card temperature; after cleaning, see if the temperature is better. If the temperature is correct, for example: 70/75 would already be good.
For the game that is causing issues, try lowering the graphic settings, disable vertical sync, etc., to see if there is a way to optimize the game for smoother performance.

Hello,
Indeed, your laptop is fine for running games.
First, having the BIOS, drivers, and software up to date is good. Are the motherboard drivers up to date from the DELL website?
If the graphics card heats up to 85°C during gaming, that's a bit too much and can cause frame rate drops.
Since it's a laptop, make sure to dust off the ventilation grills that might be obstructing airflow.
If you are using your PC for multitasking, it's normal for the fans to run louder; it requires much more resources, so it heats up more and needs to ventilate more.
Be careful, I had this problem of significant frame rate drops overnight for no reason with good CPU and GPU temperatures. I analyzed everything, no viruses, etc... it was due to a Windows 10 update that had bugs in version 2004 causing performance drops and frame rate loss.
In an old game like Left 4 Dead 2, I used to get 300 fps, but since this buggy update, I've experienced stuttering, freezing, and frame rate drops from 300 to 152/100, etc...
Check if it’s related to that update. I reinstalled Windows 10 and blocked updates for now; there are no more issues.
But be careful, your graphics card is still overheating and can cause frame rate drops. Check in power management settings and set it to high performance or optimal performance if you have that option.

50/55% used without doing anything, you only have 8 GB of RAM, so it gets used up quickly; Windows is quite resource-hungry, yes, that’s normal. 8 GB for gaming is just a bit tight, especially for resource-intensive games. I have 16 GB, and I'm currently downloading an update for The Division 2; I'm using 35% of my 16 GB.
Maybe the lack of memory could cause problems; it’s possible that you should consider adding 8 GB later if the budget allows, of course.

Hello, first of all thank you for your support. Regarding updates, I don't have anything with support assist, Windows update, and Nvidia. So I think everything is fine. I believe it comes from the game itself since I don't have this issue in other games like Borderlands and WWZ.
As for the temperature, indeed my graphics card gets quite hot so I'm going to dismantle and clean my computer. My computer is already set to optimal performance as I mentioned, I've optimized everything with Malekal, DVR, Xbox Game Bar, etc. How do I uninstall the Windows update? I will also check the link you sent me once I get home. However, I created a support to raise my computer slightly while gaming, so I'm running at 80-81 degrees on big games.

Hello,
No problem, with pleasure. What is support assist? It's better to check for updates yourself; that's preferable. If there are no issues with other games, it might be due to the game itself being poorly optimized; that happens.
Or it could come from the Nvidia driver; a driver update can cause problems with certain games, that's a possibility, or it could be a faulty driver, which can happen, but generally, it would affect all games. Good to know about the Xbox Game Bar DVR and also that the game mode should be disabled. Regarding the update, I don't know; I couldn't find the problematic update, so I reinstalled Windows while blocking updates, but for me, it was happening on all games: FPS drops, slowdowns, etc. It's good that you elevated your laptop; from 85°, you gained a bit in temperature to 80/81°, so the laptop is likely poorly ventilated or obstructed by dust, which you should test after a cleaning; maybe use a compressed air duster for hard-to-reach areas.

And also, if I downgrade my Windows, will I not have any risks regarding Windows Defender? I am going to do a thorough cleaning inside my PC with cotton swabs and a can of compressed air. I hope these two solutions will resolve my issue.
Best regards,
Best regards,
Hello, well after a thorough cleaning of the inside of the PC (you could see the dust in the fans). My computer doesn't go above 80 degrees in the Intel stress test without support! So we can imagine that I don't exceed 75 with the support, especially since it was a stress test. So thank you for the advice, I can close the topic.
Hello,
I'm glad that it was able to help you after several searches on a PC, especially for gaming, it's hard to find the cause of the problem as it can be anything and everything.
But the worst enemy of a PC is dust that clogs the grills, fans, etc...
I recommend that you do regular cleaning.
Happy gaming now ^^
