Accessing external hard drive via shield

Question

Hello everyone,  I have an external hard drive connected to the Shield with Plex Server. Everything works in playback except that I only have partial access to writing on the external hard drive connected to the Shield.  I have enabled "transfer files over the local network" in "storage and reset" in the Shield's settings menu. Additionally, I have set up an FTP server on the Shield as recommended.  The hard drive is visible via the "network" folder on my PC and I can access it through "This PC". It is also accessible via FileZilla.  I can rename files via FileZilla and create new folders, but I cannot delete or move files.  Whenever I try to make a modification or move a file, I get the following error messages:  - "the file ....... is too large for the destination file system" or another error message.  Do you have any ideas to solve this problem?  Thank you in advance.

Hi, what format is this disk in? try using a disk formatted in fat32 instead of ntfs, sure it limits file sizes, but it's possible that the shield reads it but writes poorly on NTFS...  -- and... there you go!

Thank you for your reply.  Unfortunately, I have files larger than 4GB. So FAT32 is not an option for me.  What is surprising is that I have some rights to rename files and create new folders. But I cannot move the files.  In some cases, I can only make copies but cannot cut the file.  To be more precise, I want to access my external hard drive connected to the Shield on my PC connected via Wi-Fi on a network with a Livebox. The Shield acts as a server (NAS?).  Any other ideas?

Hello everyone,     Sorry for the late response but I didn't have time to do the manipulations earlier.     So it's good, I succeeded!     1) First, I tried on a USB key by formatting it to ExFat and trying media file manipulations, either via FTP or via network location. Result: it still doesn't work regardless of the hard drive format (Ntfs, Fat, or ExFat).     2) I then tried putting all my media folders in the NVIDIA_SHIELD folder at the root of the HDD and there BINGO! Regardless of the HDD format (for me in NTFS), it works! No need to go through FTP. A simple connection via "network location" in Windows is enough. Beforehand, you need to enable the sharing function on the network in the Shield settings and with the login and password assigned once the option is activated, you can create access to your favorite files.
