Hello,

For several months, if not years, my mother's computer has been stuck at startup on a blue screen saying "select keyboard layout" with several language options. The problem is that my keyboard and mouse are unresponsive. I have tested them on other PCs and they work correctly. I have confirmed that my USB ports are enabled and recognized in the BIOS.
From the information I’ve gathered elsewhere, I need to boot Windows from a bootable USB stick. The problem is that she doesn't know if she had Windows 10 before the bug or if her computer is 32 or 64 bit to choose the right version.

I wanted to know if reinstalling Windows from a USB stick would delete all her files, as she has no other backups on the hard drive and these documents have great sentimental value. And how can I know which version of Windows to put on my bootable USB stick?

I also tried to start in safe mode, but I can't find that option at startup on the choice page (BIOS / BOOT...).

If you have a solution to repair the computer while keeping the files (photos, videos, documents...), I would be very grateful.

Thank you very much for all your feedback and responses,

Have a good day,

For starting in safe mode, if access to Windows is not possible, press F8 continuously right from the start of the power-up. If nothing happens, to back up your documents, create a live USB livecd:

      Thank you for your response.

When I press F8, the "boot device" page opens and I only have the choice between the hard drive, the CDrom, and 4 USB ports, but there's no option for safe mode, any other idea?

For now, I am copying a Windows 10 ISO to USB using Microsoft's "media creation tool" to possibly boot from USB. Does this equate to booting from Malekal live CD? And will this also preserve the files present?

Finally, how do I choose the correct version, 32 or 64 bits?

Thank you again for your response.

You are out of luck, on your PC, the same key affects the boot menu and safe mode. Once the boot menu disappears, continue tapping the F8 key quickly.

I tried pressing F8 or F5 before, during, or after the BIOS, but in all cases, I end up back on my blue keyboard layout selection page.

Should I try to boot with the Windows 10 ISO via USB or create a live USB to recover my files?

Thank you for your responses; I am a beginner as you can see, and I am afraid of erasing everything with a wrong move.

I lack experience with the use of the liveCD. With the USB key, if you followed the procedure, you will have access to the recovery of W10.
